Default Can someone explain the Keddie Murders?

I heard the new movie The Strangers is loosely based on this still unsolved case. Can someone tell me about it in detail?

I had never heard of this case until you mentioned this. There is a lot of info on the net about it and it even has its own website and message board at www.cabin28.com. The horrific murder took place in 1981 cabin 28 in the midst of a lot of cabins in Northern California but strangely no one heard anything. Sixteen year old John Sharp and his 17 year old friend Dana Wingate were found bound hand and foot and had been stabbed and hammered to death. There was blood on every surface of the cabin. On the blood soaked couch lay the mom Sue Sharp and she had been killed in the same brutal way. The daughter Tina was missing and her remains were found 3 years later 95 miles away. Surprisingly two younger brothers and a friend were all found in the back bedroom untouched. Sadly this case has never been solved. I was reading about the case on another website and someone mentioned she was living at the cabin when "Unsolved Mysteries" did a segment about it although I don't ever remember seeing anything on UM concerning it. Does anyone remember seeing it on UM? I've also heard "The Strangers" isn't very closely based on the slayings, probably just said 'inspired by true events' to get more publicity and it seems to be working.

Wink

Thanks CD for the link. I'll have to read up on it. Sounds very spooky. I saw for myself that it was supposively on UM so thats why I inquired here first. Why not start with the experts?

Did Unsolved Mysteries or any of those Haunting-type programs ever do a segment on this? Has the haunted building since been torn down?

I saw this profiled on the news a couple years ago in Sacramento, CA.

I was interested in it and attending Sacramento State at the time and went through article archives from the Union and Bee

At the time when it happened the Sheriff was adament that it would be a matter of days before the perps were caught.

Here is what I recall, it was believed that a teenage son was out with a friend in town and caught a ride home with the killers.

The mother was at home with her younger boys sleeping in another room and two teenage daughters was nearby at a friends cabin.

The younger boys were not harmed and it has always been real cloudy if they ever heard or saw anything. I tried to find something on this and believe the authorities are not talking about their statements for some reason.

The mother, her son, and his friend were discovered murdered in the livingroom and understand it was not pretty. One teenage daughter had left her friend's home and was missing. Yhe other discovered the bodies.

Some two or three months later, the missing daughter's head was discovered in the woods by a bottle searcher in a jar about 50 miles south between the murder and Sacramento.

The father of the kids was seperated from the mother and in the Navy on the East Coast.

The news documentary I saw centered around a memorial for an aniversary of the murder. Maybe the police were hoping the killer would hide in the shadows or something ? The daughter discussed the case, but a younger son refused to be interviewed.

Wait!
I thought this case was a hoax, that this never happened and was just publicity for the movie.

Maybe you're confusing it with the Blair Witch or something. This one was real, all right.

No, it was this case.
I honestly thought it was a hoax.

How tragic.
