I recently traded for the complete series of LONGSTREET
on DVD-R and there was a mix-up with the first disc. It did not have the ABC Movie-Of-The-Week Pilot or the very first two episodes of the series on it. The person who traded it said he has no idea why the first disc has two shows from later in the season. He thought his set was the entire series, but had never checked it. So now I am searching for the missing pilot and first two episodes if anyone has them. |

I'm new to the trading scene and don't have much to offer at this point besides blank media and postage reimbursement. Since this request really only amounts to one or two discs I can't imagine anyone not being willing to help me complete my collection.
![]() (DELETED REST OF POST because it mentions someone I had a bad deal with in this forum and with trading. He is on my IGNORE list and that's all I'm going to say about him publicly) |

That's really a shame, Joker, but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised after all. I just know what I would do in a similar situation if I had something that someone wanted and it didn't inordinately invlove going out of my way to do them a favor. But maybe that's just me. I've often helped people out with their hobbies and collections and not expected anything in return, even strangers I've only met online. I don't feel that I've ever been taken advantage of. But that's the way my world turns.

Listen Prof, I hope you are succesful in your quest .....
I'm just guessing there will have to be some financial compensation (let's say 40 beans , just for arguments sake ) if said person, really has said episode(s) in their possesion..... just my guess now, that's all.Let us know how it all turns out.

Prof,
I have the first (2) episodes for trade, no movie. I can trade this DVD with (2) episodes for something that you have or I can trade it for a couple of named brand blanks, such as Maxell, Sony, Verbatium, etc.... |

Well, Joker, I'm afraid your assessment of the traders here has been proven true at least with regards to the very first person who contacted me about these missing episodes I am seeking. I wrote and said I had only blanks to trade along with postage reimbursement and he summarily ignored me. I wrote back to inquire as to what the situation was and, sure enough, he said he is only interested in trading for things he needs. So let's see, he couldn't part with what at the most would be two DVD-Rs to help complete my collection at absolutely no expense to him?
Sadly it appears that in this instance you were right and I was wrong. Wow, can't believe how selfish some people can be. In response I wrote to him stating that this is my first experience at this Trading Post and I have to say he has now set the standard high for selfishness. Well, he can keep his LONGSTREET discs and everything else; life is way too short to have to put up with people like him no matter what he has. Thank you to Quinncy, I will send you a PM with more information. I would also like to praise a trader named Christy King who responded in an E Mail with a very nice offer to work out trades in the future. It's people like her that are keeping me from being soured on this whole process just as I am starting out. |

If this is all it takes to sour you, you'd better get used to buying retail. But in defense of the "selfish" traders they are after all here to trade, not give away. If you have nothing to trade you start off small and build your collection till you will one day have something somebody else needs. THen you will have your first trade and you'll feel good about it too. Standing with your hand out for a freebie is not much of a feat.

Hazel, if you took the time to read my previous posts on this matter you would have seen that I was more than offering compensation for a lack of specific titles to trade. As I have said ad infinitum and ad nausea on this particular issue, I was not asking any seller to "give away" his/her oh so precious collection for nothing nor was I standing with my "hand out for a freebie."
I offered more blank media than the paltry amount used to do these episodes for me, plus a reimbursement for postage and time involved. It's not like I was looking for an entire series in trade for blanks, it constitutes maybe one or two DVD-Rs and media mail. I may not have any specific shows to fulfill someone else's want list at the moment, but I certainly didn't expect to get something for nothing. In your world if that constitutes expecting a freebie, so be it. Perhaps it doesn't quite fit into your narrow view of the way trading is supposed to work, but maybe you are so focused on what YOU are going to get out of a deal that you overlook your own part in giving something in exchange for it. I thought trading was supposed to be about fun and meeting new people and sharing a passion for a hobby, not a cut and dried business. If you and the other selfish dealer I've encoutered so far are an example of who populates this dubious world of trading, good riddance to you. Thankfully I still believe there are those out there, and perhaps even in this forum, who are not lurking in the shadows of greed and selfishness. Trust me, I'm learning fast. |

Dear Prof., I had just written a beautiful thoughtful and kind hearted response to your tantrum, but suddenly the whole thing disappeared and alas I am faced with writing it all over again or just make it fast. So since I'm already weary of this subject, I'll make it fast. My main point was that when making a trade you not only "focus" as you put it on what you're getting BUT, you must also consider is what you're giving a fair exchange for what you're asking for? To basically offer somebody a quarter for their collection is a bit of an insult. Most people do treasure what they have, it's their collection, it took them time and effort to get it. They went thru many trades and in my case spent many many hours dubbing from my own original video tapes over to DVD just to get what we have in the DVD format. To these real collectors who's spent so much time and effort on finally getting what they have to offer them a quarter or a free piece of plastic disc in exchange for their hard earned collection is a slap in the face. If you're new to trading you may not have much in your own collection to value and may not appreciate the time and effort it takes to amass a collection. So you assume other people should think no more of their collection than they would a blank disc in the store. I am trying to be civil with you and explain a situation in spite of your hissy fit of insults. Perhaps if you take a moment to consider other people's feelings about their own hard earned collections and not "focus" only on what you want and when you want it and "why don't they just give it to me, what's the big deal?" attitude you display, perhaps then, but only if you can change your "give it to me now" attitude, perhaps then you'll be able to carry on trades with others without feeling a need to insult them merely because they want something equal in value to what it is they are offering you. A blank disc is not the equal of someone's time and effort spent on creating their own collection of DVDs. I have been collecting for a long time, first comic books, then records, then old time radio show tapes, then beta and vhs tapes, then books, then CDs then DVDs. I appreciate all the effort it took to do this and I enjoy the results of that collecting by reading or watching what I've managed to collect. Maybe you can understand to offer a piece of plastic for this just might be considered a bit of an unfair trade.

lets all just keep our cool here, the bottom line is that no one should expect something for nothing, but outright profiteering isn't right either.
maybe the professor just needs to be a little patient until he can find someone that has what he needs and is willing to make a fair trade for something he has to offer. |

By the way, getting back to the subject of Longstreet. Conicidentally, I just made a trade for Longstreet too. It's supposed to be the complete collection, but now I'm worried, I hope it will include the pilot and first 2 episodes. I'll have to check when it comes in. Maybe this Longstreet set that's floating about is missing these first few shows. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

hi, the professor states in an earlier message:
"I've often helped people out with their hobbies and collections and not expected anything in return, even strangers I've only met online." if he has helped others with their collections, then he should have some type of collection that he could trade from. i have not only traded for tv shows, but have also traded for music concert video as well as old time radio shows and music audio cds. so he may have other stuff that he might not think someone else might be interested in. there are certain shows and eps that i am looking for, but will always consider looking at any kind of list. trading for blanks to me seems to be like trading for nothing. plus i couldn't use just any type of blanks. my machines are very picky. personally i have traded for $ and have given $ in trade so that the blanks i use could be purchased. i do think that the professor needs to chill and be less aggressive if he wants to trade with traders here. thanks stoogedog |
