These go back to the 1979 Archives! I am fairly confident I am the only one that has this one.... well I recently found 2 episodes of ABC latenite...which of course predates "Nightline"...it was a monday thru friday strip at 11:30PM and usually showed a combination of movies and ABC hour drama series (stretched to 70 minutes for more commercials), like Charlie's Angels. First up is "Andy Kaufman's Funhouse", this one was commercially released, for you fans, it is the one with where he has a touching moment with his childhood idol, Howdy Doody. But for its only television airing it was a full 90 minutes long and the released version is only about 50 minutes. The next one is a one time improv comedy special called "Completely Off The Wall" which features a bunch of comics who never went anywhere but John Ritter appears in a few sketches I guess to give it some star power. Both contain the great classic "ABC Latenite" open which shows each show they normally played during the week with Friday being "a specials night". These will be going to DVD in a hurry before the nearly 30 year VHS tape crumbles, actually I'm a big fan of VHS and tape in general, I often wonder with all the work I'm putting into archiving and preserving VHS to DVD, will the DVD's play as perfectly in 30 years as the VHS? or will the DVD be corrupted somehow???? People always said the shelf life of a VHS was 30 years or so, I also paid $20 for one 30 years ago, they were much heavier back then and made better.
