Has anyone here bought the season sets? I think they put out seasons 1 and 2. I only have a few episodes from a public domain issue and was wondering how these season sets are.

I get the show about 15 times per week but I'm not sure how many different episodes are available. I haven't seen any official release other than the vhs set that was offered about 10 years ago and endorsed by Loretta herself.

I've seen ads for seasons 1 and 2 in those nostalgia magazines like Good Old Days
I used to see episodes years ago on the old Goodlife TV (now AmericanLife) network. Mixed in were episodes of "The New Loretta Young Show", which was more a continuing comedy-drama, than anthology. |

Seasons 1 and 2 were released by Timeless Video on DVD. There are 30 episodes in each set, which I don't think is all episodes for the seasons (there were usually 39 in those days). Quality is only so-so as these clearly came from 16mm prints and not 35mm prints. There are some awkward edits in a few spots on Loretta's entrances (and all sponsor plugs have been snipped too) but I recognize this is apt to be the best we'll ever see these shows in.

Thanks Eric. I wonder if these sets were authorized by the Loretta Young Estate? I remember the reruns on Goodlife had the updated copyright of Loretta Young on it.
Also there is no place on S.O. to discuss this show in the Classic Dramas section. |

Yes, these releases are also authorized by Loretta's estate. They're clearly the same source elements used for the repeats on Goodlife.

Hi, I'm digging into this old thread to ask a question about a Loretta Young Show episode. The plot involves the Loretta Y. character and her husband traveling in a top up convertible in the rain. Rain stops, after a few minutes, the man puts the top down. Long story short, they're involved in a mishap where they are trapped in the convertible with electric wires from downed poles surrounding them. The rest of the story involves them trying to get out of their car.
For the record, it is a white 1956 Lincoln Premiere, episode would have been broadcast after the middle of 1955. I hope one of you can help me with this obsessive problem! |
