What was everyone watching when your show got interrupted by the first news broadcast?
For me, I was in 9th grade. We were in 1st period. one of the teachers rushes in the room and tells us to turn on the TV immmediately. I also remember every station being interrupted by the news casts. For example: CNN news was on TBS that day. That year also, a lot of programs were interrupted by president speeches. This is a day I will never forget. It was very sad to see those news casts with the towers in flames. |

I was driving In my car listening to the Rick & Bubba Morning Radio Show when I first heard of It. At first I thought It was part of their Show and I was thinking to myself, that Isn't anything to be joking about. But after a few minutes, I realized they weren't joking, It was for real.

When it actually happened, I was in a math class (my last year of college). A friend drove me home, but we didn't have the radio on so I didn't know until I turned on the radio downstairs. I was going to listen to Dr. Laura (
) but she was preempted. All I heard were these reporters talking all over each other but I couldn't make heads or tails of what they were saying. So I went upstairs and turned on the TV...just in time to see the second tower fall.

The Odd Couple, which wasn't preempted. My dad came home from work and told me. I skipped class that day.

Didn't watch any of it when it was actually going on. I just started middle school in 7th grade and there was mention of it in my heath class but that was that. I didn't understand the impact until mom told me about it and saw the images on every single channel by that point. It doesn't really hit you when you're an eleven year old girl when something like that happens, you know?

I was working nights at the time, and tended to turn on the news after I'd had breakfast, a shower, etc. So I turned NBC just in time to see the breaking news story, watched as they began to realize it was deliberate, and then saw the second plane hit..... Damn.

I was at work and watching CNN when the first report came in, people watched not thinking much until the second plane hit the WTC. Then it became clear that it was no fluke accident.

Like sunshinefizzy, I was in 7th grade at the time. I was in Tech Ed (aka Woodworking class), and the teacher, which loved to tell us stories about anything at the beginning of class, instead read from a memo from the office about a plane hitting the WTC. I didn't even know what that was. When I got home, I knew more when I turned on the news. Almost every channel had news coverage, and some still showing programming had news crawlers on the bottom of the screen. The shopping networks were off the air with a message on the screen. I remember soaps and talk shows on broadcast TV not returning to the air for at least a week and 1/2. It was the most news coverage I have ever seen. I was surprised the networks never ran out of things to talk about.

My mother and I were watching "Oprah", when we first saw news crawlers about this plane crashing in New York. At first, we thought it had been an accident. But when a second plane also crashed, we started to understand something was really wrong. I think we must have watched "Family Matters" that afternoon too, because it was on back then. But the whole evening, there was nothing but news coverage about this on TV. Dozens of shows were pre-emptied.
And I had just started 10th grade back then, and since that's the first grade in High School over here in Sweden, I had just graduated from my old elementary/junior high school, which I had gone to for ten years, and started in a new school, a High School, with new teachers and new classmates. And when I came to school the morning after those terrible attacks, first period for my class was Maths. And our Maths and Science teacher, Britt-Marie, looked at us solemnly and just said "Today is the day after yesterday", and we all knew what she meant. |

I was on the internet when somebody told me to turn on my TV. That was when I found out about it.
