Where I use to live we didn't have access to cable but we did have a dish, and WPIX was one of the channels we had and watched a lot of. The highlight for me was the Yule Log on Christmas Eve, though. And of course, the New Year's marathon of The Honeymooners!

If the shows appear in the order listed, then it means that for the first time in years, The Honeymooners will air on a Saturday evening in the NY market on a broadcast station at 8 PM, Jackie's old time slot! Good job, WPIX!

Just bumping this message since the WPIX event is this weekend. The episodes airing are Better Living Through TV and The $99,000 Answer, airing at 8PM Eastern.

If anyone records the WPIX anniversary special that is to air tonight let me know, that is one that I would love to see. Especially the stuff about the Yule Log!!!

One aspect of this which was valuable was the showing of the very first WPIX test pattern, used from its launch in 1948 until the more famous one came forth in 1949. The longer-lasting one - which was used up to the end of the '70's - had been shown during the montage of old WPIX logos in recreated form (the use of Folio, a font which didn't show up until later in the '50's/around the '60's) was a clue. What is below is a (relatively) more accurate recreation thereof:

(For those interested in the technical details, the pinholes on the left, right and bottom wedges are supposed to represent 150, 200, 250 and 300 lines; the top wedge pinholes, 2, 2.5, 3 and 3.5 MHz.)
