Default Willona's nickname for Michael

I am a huge GT fan, and this has always driven me crazy: Why did Wilona call Michael "Gramms"? They never explained this, and it went on in every season.
Any insight?

Thanks

Jason

It was Gramps.

BTW, it was a nickname my late brother's friend also went by.

It was never stated why she called him that. I guess just a term of endearment in some way.

I think she called him that because he was very mature for his age, he had an old soul.

I would have liked an explanation too. The first time Willona calls Michael Gramps is in the 'Black jesus' ep, and from my DVD's I never heard why she called him that.

There it is. You heard it from the expert. There was no explanation given.

Really, there was no need to give one. "Gramps" is somewhat a common nickname in certain communities to call someone. Brieannas said it best above. Michael was very mature for his age and the nickname fit him. Like I said, my brother had a friend whom we called "Gramps" and it was because his friends said he was more mature than the rest of them and he would talk to them like he was a grandpa.

I thought it was said here many times that the Columbia House tapes were just like the CBS episodes.

Well that isn't going to happen. I mean, unless someone here recorded the show, they will have to post here. So far in the three years that I have been here and the time you have been here, has anyone ever stated they have the CBS shows on tape?

Besides, GT couldn't give an explanation for everything. That is crazy talk. You either know what something means or you don't. I am sure the word "gramps" is prevalent in the black community since this was a black family. I looked up the word and it says someone who is mature and wise.

But as you would tell us, "That doesn't mean you have all the episodes, therefore it doesn't answer the question."

No one - since I have been here - has ever told us they have ALL the CBS episodes. What good is a few if you are wanting an answer to a question?

I don't ever recall Willona or anyone else giving an explanation for his nickname. Because THERE WAS NO NEED FOR AN EXPLANATION.
