Can it really be true? According to a short article entitled "EMA To Honor Donna Reed Son Paul Petersen" from Video Business, it states, and I quote "Arts Alliance America plans to release The Donna Reed Show on DVD in the summer". The article is dated May 13, 2008.
Will this be a best of set? Will it be Season 1? Will the episodes be complete and unedited? Has the show been licensed from Sony or the Donna Reed Estate? So many questions!!! All I know for sure right now is that I am beyond excited.

I really hope this is true! I love "The Donna Reed Show" but have only seen it twice since it's Nick at Nite days. I miss it so much.
The company that is said to release it, so far has done season sets. I believe they're the company that through TV Guide is releasing the seasons of "Charles In Charge." |

To say that I watched this show on Nick at Nite isn't enough. This was THE Nick at Nite show back then for me. This and "My Three Sons." These were my two favorite shows. In fact, as a kid, I had my own little pretend TV show. And the opening credits were the same as the Donna Reed Show's. The phone rang, I came over answered it "Hello", and then hummed the theme song, lol. Don't worry, it was a very manly show about me as a Fireman with a wacky shrunken Uncle (I didn't have anyone to play it with me, so I got an action figure and pretended like he was my scientist Uncle who shrunk himself and didn't know how to return to normal size, lol).
Let's get these Classic Nick at Nite shows on DVD in complete season (or series) sets. Shows like: The Donna Reed Show My Three Sons The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (season sets of) Mister Ed Car 54, Where Are You? The Patty Duke Show Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In (all seasons of) Make Room for Daddy Dennis the Menace I've got a lot of 1960s shows on DVD, but these are the main ones I've wanted since these are the ones I grew up with (on N@N in the 1980s). I really want them all! |

I've never seen this show, but have heard only good things about it. Plus, I've always loved Shelley Fabares (my family all loved Coach). So, I hope it gets a DVD release - I'd love to see it!!

Oh that would be so sweet!!!
Just went to TVshowsonDVD.com a rep from Arts Alliance America states a release is in the planning stages, but won't be until the 4t quarter--not the summer, as Video Business stated. |

I hope it's true but I heard it's doubtful it'll ever be released. The rights belong to her children and the studio.
I sure miss the old Nic@Nite and TV Land but they have said they won't bring back those old shows, they are moving in a new direction.

Well, it looks like the first season will be released in October! Donna Reed's daughter is involved, so hopefully, it will happen.

That's great news! Maybe Shelley Fabares and the Peterson siblings could do interviews for the DVDs, maybe a commentary or two...I can dream, can't I?

Not being a Donna Reed fan, her character on this show is too pure, wholesome and perfect. It is unrealistic, no one is like that in real life. This show came from the era where many family sitcoms were sugar coated with sweetness and it gave audiences a false impression of life. The 50's & early 60's was a more innocent time, but some of these shows took it to an extreme. To me, The Donna Reed Show is overrated like other sitcoms of the 50's/early 60's such as I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, Make Room For Daddy, Burns & Allen, Sgt. Bilko, the list goes on. I'd rather watch episodes of Leave It To Beaver (a more realistic family sitcom), The Honeymooners, or Amos N Andy than any of these other shows.
But for fans of Donna Reed, it's good the show is coming to DVD. Will be interesting to find out if the episodes are uncut. That will be the big thing, whether or not they put all uncut episodes on the DVD. |

Sgt. Bilco offered a new insight, I loved this show. If we had behaved as Beaver, we probably wouldn't have been able to sit at the dinner table too many nights.

I'll agree that Donna Reed is better than almost any modern sitcom made today, but I guess it's just not my type of show. I tried watching the show when Nick At Nite aired it, but I wasn't too impressed. It's all a matter of personal taste, but as a fan of classic TV it's always good when an older show like this gets a DVD release.

I don't see much of anything being made for tv nowdays but reality shows. Who needs them, reality is daily living and I sure don't need this on tv. I watch tv for entertainment and there's so little of that anymore. I wish we had shows like the 50's and 60's again. Westerns, sitcoms, variety shows, detective. There was a lot to choose from and only three networks. Now we have hundreds of channels and very little worth watching. Hmmmm
