Default Your Own 1960s Sitcom Finale Ideas

If they did big finales for sitcoms in the 1960s, like they do today, what are some plots you'd like to have seen for these shows?

"My Favorite Martian" - After three years living on Earth with Tim O'Hara, Uncle Martin finally fixes his space ship and heads back to Mars. A simple ending, with a tearful goodbye scene between the two main characters.

"Gilligan's Island" - After three years stranded on that island, Gilligan and the castaways are finally rescued. Another simple ending that takes place in 1967 and not 15 or so years later.

"Bewitched" - It's revealed that Samantha has spent the past three years with a different Darrin! Sadly, York's Darrin died of a heart attack in 1969. A distraught Samantha makes a spell to make another man Darrin. However, the spell has affected everyone - even her! It's when the Witche's Council finally reveals the truth. They show here the scene from the first episode where Darrin and Samantha first meet. However, Dick Sargent replaced York in those scenes. Suddenly, Samantha closes her eyes, opens them and sees the original Darrin in those scenes. Some sentimental music plays and she remembers the first Darrin. How this affects everyone else (including Sargent's Darrin)... you got me. I didn't think it all the way through, lol.

"The Andy Griffith Show" - A two-parter. The first part finds Andy proposing to Helen and she accepts. The second part would be the actual wedding of Andy and Helen. Pretty much the "Mayberry R.F.D. premeire, but it would have more emphasis on Andy, Barney, Helen and Opie and less on Sam and the gang.

"Mister Ed" - Ed decides he wants more in his life and starts talking to the public. He leaves his stable and gets his own late night talk show with Wilbur as his sidekick.

I've actually discussed my own Bewitched finale on the BW board. Basically my premise has an old book discovered by Tabitha and Adam that foretells all of witchdom losing its powers unless the children of a mixed marriage perform a spell from the old book. They do, all witchdom is restored and Endora finally admits that Sam and Darrin did the right thing in marrying one another.

It's probably best to stay away from two different actors playing Darrin, but I can't help myself, lol. I feel the need to have some sort of explanation.

I like your idea, though. And I think the finale should have Endora accepting the marriage of her witch daughter to that mortal, whats-his-name.

No matter what anyone comes up with, it has to be better than the actual finale the show had.

You call that a finale? I call it seeing Liz looking bored.

Since both series started and ended at almost the same time, it would have
been interesting (although virtually impossible) if there had been a series
finale in which the Munsters met the Addams family, in a special simulcast on
both ABC and CBS. It would especially be fun to see an encounter between
Grandpa Munster and Uncle Fester.

I liked the Two Darrins idea! Very imaginative premise

Hogan's Heroes: The war is almost over, an SS officer (who ran a concentration camp) shows up at Stalag 13 switches indentity papers with Klink* (to avoid likely execution), and takes over Klink's name and job; meanwhile the REAL Klink is captured by the allies and due to his papers is now branded a war criminal.....in a huge irony, as a last "mission" before their liberation, the prisonners and Shultz team up to save their former Commandant (Klink) from the gallows, and bring the imposter to justice!
(Don't ask me HOW...I never figured it out that far....this is an old idea for a fan-fic, that i never got around to actually writing )
* historical note:This actually happened, several notorious SS men took on new identities as foot soldiers who were already dead , or just stole a private's, or civillian clothes to try and hide who they actually were, many eventually escaped to Brazil...SS men were often betrayed though, by the SS tattoos they were all required to have.

The Beverly Hillbillies - The Clampett's move back home but before leaving they decide to turn the mansion into a hotel. This way they can have a sequel "The Hillbilly Hotel", where they could make guest appearances from time to time. Also character's from Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, & HeeHaw, could also visit the hotel.

Thanks.

If I actually think it through, maybe I could come up with some fan fiction for it. My original idea had Darrin dying in '69, and because of Samantha's love for this mortal, a new "Darrin" would always replace the one before him. So Samantha and Darrin would be together forever. And Samantha along with everyone else was clueless to the fact that it was a different Darrin. Then Samantha, in the finale, somehow finds out the truth. The only problem with this is, even though Sargent's Darrin wouldn't be the original Darrin, or the real father of Adam, he was still technically Adam's father since he raised him for as long as he did. Not only that, but he raised Tabitha for those three years. So the question is 'What do I do with the second Darrin?' It doesn't seem right to have Samantha stay with him, because he's not the man that she fell in love with and Darrin #2's presence is really a deception. Even though it's not his fault. He's just a pawn in this story. But I guess by the finale, the show was in the 1970s. So Samantha and Darrin #2 could have gotten a divorce. It would end with Samantha, Tabitha and Adam embracing their magical family lifestyle, since her marriage to Darrin is over. But of course, all of this is much too sad for a situation comedy that was as funny as "Bewitched."

I like.

My HH finale involves an underground agent I created, so it only makes sense to me. And it's not real thought out either. lol

I know, lol. Kids watching the finale would probably be all confused. And it's not really the kind of an ending the show would ever do. It's really more just an Adam (Me) thing.

And Mikado, I like your "Hogan's Heroes" idea.

I think one of us needs to come up with an idea for "Family Affair." Family shows are harder to come up with. It's not like a workplace comedy, where they can all leave or something. And I don't think anyone wants to see the Davis clan separate in the final episode.

A simple idea for "The Munsters." Marilyn meets a guy and the two elope. The final scene, is Marilyn on the front porch, saying goodbye to her family. Her and her new husband walk down the driveway, while Herman, Lily, Grandpa and Eddie watch her leave. The ugly duckling of the family FINALLY met a good man!

Get Smart- Richard Nixon is now in the White House, he decides that there's no more need for CONTROL, now that KAOS has been more-or-less destroyed, and besides, the CIA can do the job if necessary.....The Chief, stays on til his 65th birthday and Control effectively ends with his retirement.
Agents 13 and 44, used to being cooped up in small places take jobs working the ticket booth at a downtown parking lot....Heimie the Robot transfers to the Treasury dept to work as a calculator for the IRS....Seigfried decides to return to Germany to work at the VW factory in Wolfsburgh.......99 decides to be a stay at home Mom, but, only til the twins are in high school and, Max joins Nixon's own "secret" security detail.........his job is to tape meetings in the Oval Office, secretly! (Now we KNOW who REALLY brought Nixon down!)

Green Acres - Oliver has decided his dreams of farm life just aren’t worth the lunacy of all the people in Hooterville. So, much to Lisa’s delight, the two move back to the city. Cut to five years later, Oliver still doesn’t enjoy his life and decides that the farm living with all those crazies wasn’t THAT bad, and they return to Hooterville. Where they live as happily ever after as they possibly can.

The Monkees - Davy, Micky, Mike and Peter enter a Twilight Zone type land where they are musical sensations. The four of them really get into this lifestyle, however, they end up being forced to repeat the last two years of their lives over and over and over again in syndication!

Please Don’t Eat the Daises - Never saw the show. So I'll just say that after a couple seasons of being asked not to eat the daises, one of the characters grabs a daisy and eats it.
