Default My Season Six Viewing

I was anxious to watch the sixth season of "Bewitched" on DVD. Because to be honest, I never saw Dick Sargent episodes ever since I became a fan of the show. So even though I love Dick York's Darrin, I was still ready to watch and like the Sargent episodes.

However, in watching the episodes, I find myself having to watch some Dick York episodes mixed in with the Dick Sargents. I need the real Darrin.

That's funny, Adam. I'm about halfway through season six now. My plan is to start over with season 1 and go through the show again--hopefully by that time, season 7 will be announced!

I plan on waiting for the last two seasons to be released. Then I'll watch the show from the beginning and watch them all in order. Though it may be unbearable to watch all those Dick Sargent's in a row, lol. Like I don't mind watching an episode or two with Dick Sargent, but it's when I'm watching a bunch in a row that I have to break it up with some Dick York.

I LOVE the first two seasons. In fact my two favorite episodes are from the very first season. "A Is for Aardvark" and "Love Is Blind." And just for the record, I prefer the first two seasons in black and white.

Even though I'm not planning on buying any more seasons (I still think the show should've ended after Season 5), I might check Season 6 out of the library. This is no knock on Mr. Sargent - I liked him in other roles, but Dick York WAS Darrin. I'm just not a fan of the DS era, mainly because the show was growing stale, EM looked bored and scripts were being recycled like crazy. I'm also watching the show from the beginning again - I'm starting Season 2, and I'm on the ep where Endora zaps Darrin into thinking he's pregnant. "I DEMAND your pickle!!"

That's funny, I watched that episode the other day.

Darrin: "Well he WASN'T eating it!"

As far as shows on DVD goes for me, personally, I have to have it all. I take the good and take the bad. I take them both and there I have... No, I'm not going to sing "The Facts of Life", lol. But my older sister can buy just seasons she likes of shows and that drives me crazy. If I was that way, I may have also stopped at season five.

oh I can't wait for all of them to be released and deny my witch habit!
I'm so glad for the DVDs, because it has been a year or more so anyone has reran the show in the US.

A couple of days after Season 2 was released, I took the DVDs over to a friend's house and we had a Bewitched party, complete with pizza, pop and chips. There were 5 of us, and that was one of the episodes we watched. "Speak the Truth" is one of my all-time fave Bewitched episodes, and to watch it with a group of people was so much fun!! We were all . "The Magic Cabin" is also dear to my heart as it is the episode that got me hooked on Bewitched. Plus, Darrin's insurance agent, "Fred Hinkle", shares his name with my late grandfather. "What Every Young Man Should Know" ranks up there with "A Is For Aardvark" as a classic Samantha/Darrin romantic episode. There's just something about the first two seasons that wasn't there later on...they were just magical, with less actual magic. Does that make sense??

I'm grateful for the DVD releases. I wasn't a fan until I bought the DVDs. I pretty much get all the shows from the 1960s on DVD, and bought "Bewitched" season one. It was so funny and I loved the chemistry between York and Montgomery. Plus I love the original Gladys Kravitz. The second one seemed just like a villain to Samantha. The original was a nice woman who was just freaked out by the weird goings-on at the Stephens' house.

I had seen bits of this show on Nick at Nite years ago, but like I say, it was the DVDs that made me a fan. I was also out to get the black and white versions of seasons one and two. I got season one fine enough. But it took me a month or so to find the black and white season two. Because all the stores seemed to have only the color versions.

^ When I became hooked on Bewitched several years ago, it wasn't through DVDs or TV Land - one of the local stations showed the reruns every weekday morning, and I'd watch (and record!) as I got ready for work. Sometimes I'd also watch the reruns of The Addams Family and Green Acres that followed.

I've been a Bewitched fan for years now, I was so excited when I learned that the show was going to dvd. I still need to get season 6 I don't mind the Dick Sargent era and I love Sam's 2nd pregnancy and her Yoo Hoo maid. I was born in 62 but don't remember watching the show until the '70-'71 season. I use to watch reruns every weekday during the 70's and 80's. I agree with you about Gladys, I loved the original she even babysat Tabitha. The 2nd Gladys was an enemy, I couldn't stand her.

I hadn't planned on getting season 6, but I may change my mind.

From what I've read, they were going to replace the Kravitz's after Alice Pearce's death. It was because they didn't want to lose George Tobias that they decided to simply recast the role of Gladys.

I liked Abner, don't get me wrong. But I would have preferred they get new neighbors to replace both of the Kravitzes, rather than recast Gladys. I wouldn't have minded if Sandra Gould played the new neighbor, I just don't like different actors playing the same character. I guess I would HATE the soap operas, lol.

I understand that it was a different story with Darrin. They couldn't just get rid of the character. But with Gladys, they could have gotten new neighbors. Or did like "Dennis the Menace." When Mr. George Wilson left, his brother John Wilson came. At first he stayed with George's wife, before she was replaced with John's wife. Of course, now that I think about it, that was a bit of crazy idea, lol.

^ I'm glad that George Tobias stayed on, even though they had to recast Gladys. Abner had some of the best one-liners in sitcom history, imho.
