Lightbulb Back to You Officially Cancelled!

FRIDAY 8:30 PM: Fox's 2007-2008 primetime season sitcom Back To You starring Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton as bickering TV co-anchors has been cancelled. I've just been told that the network's comedy pilot The Inn (20th Century Fox TV/ Reveille/Principato-Young Entertainment) is officially picked up to series now. Just before this decision, the pilot was given the go-ahead by Fox to meet writers. So they can hire now. Directed by Jason Bateman, the pilot "screened best," I was told earlier today. The network liked it from the start, even though its initial script was deemed "unreadable" by some people whose opinions I respect. Writer/Exec Prod: Abe Higgenbotham. Stars: Niecy Nash, Jerry O'Connell, Molly Stanton, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jolene Purdy, Brando Eaton.

Official Source

I can't say I wasn't expecting it Goodbye Back to you!

P.S. TILL DEATH WAS RENEWED! WTF IS WRONG WITH FOX?!

I wish this sitcom had been on CBS. Fox hasn't had a good sitcom lineup in years. Is their any hope of another network picking it up?

You never know...maybe this is false info...let's wait for word from Pav or someone in an upcoming blog. Once official word from Pavan about the FOX upfront comes in, then i'll believe it 100%! Right now I'm leaning at 75% believability, lol, sad but true.

It is canceled, they renewed 'Til Death. There was buzz earlier in the day that BTY was canceled, and now it is official. Fox will bring in The Inn (starring Jerry O'Connell) and 'Til Death will return. The new Bernie Mac show is still in the running, possibly for mid-season.

Of course this won't be official until Thursday, but the trades are now reporting this. We will have a pilot rumbling session on the blog tomorrow.

Pavan, any idea why a lower rated show would be picked up over the higher rated show (BTY being higher in the ratings)? Was it becuase episode 13 was the lowest-rated episode yet? Also, will the four episodes supposedly still air in the fall?

I really hope they end it properly. It would be absolutely horrible to end it Wednesday without a proper finale.

'Til Death is cheaper to make. Plus it is one season ahead of Back to You, which means closer to syndication. 'Til Death skews younger, too. Sure BTY gets a bit more in total viewers, but TD gets the same or sometimes better in 18-49.

Not sure, what Fox will do with the four unaired episodes. Maybe a burn-off or it won't be aired. We should know Thursday.

That's a shame. I just tuned into the show for the first time a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good...

That really bites...let's hope another network gives BTY another chance. Boo hiss to FOX.

Wow. I really wasn't expecting this. I predict a Jericho type campaign.

I've done that before, when they canceled Titus and Dark Angel. I would not watch any new show on Fox. I finally caved in when 24 premiered. Fox and sitcoms just don't go together.

Thumbs down

it's unbelievable though that these days a sitcom as good as back to you is cancelled by the likes of fox- and yet they don't have the decency to take off american idol. they are just obsessed with either adult-based animated shows like family guy, american dad or crappy reality tv. fox sucks
