I can't remember the details abt that episode so bear with me.

Maybe it was supposed to show how smoking is addicting and that even lung cancer doesn't stop some people from lighting up.

Did the audience gasp?

So I guess that was the purpose then, to show how addicting smoking is.

Was he making that up just to keep Dudley from smoking?

You don't make up a lie that big to prove a point, that's just bad parenting.

I thought this was probably one of the best endings. It was a great way to make the overall point of the episode about how addictive smoking is - and then to just fade out on silence without any applause. Classic ending from one of the best episodes of the 6th season.

I think it was to show the audience how badly addictive smoking is. I'm just glad I never did it. But it's so much harder for women to quit smoking and smoking casualties and deaths are more and more common in women than in men. Just like everything else in life, men have everything easy...those (CENSORED)!!

Retro Jessica, no more insults towards men. If I made insults about women, then I know some women on this board would be on my case and I would not blame them at all.

As far as the show goes, this topic brings back more memories. When I heard the silence and saw this man by himself light up the cigarette with the picture freeze frame, that scared me as a kid.

You are a class act Thomas. Never have you ever made any derogatory remarks against women or anyone in general.

I don't get the whole man-hating posts but it is pathetic and it is against the rules to call people names.

It is obvious the ending was to show how addictive smoking is as I stated above. No way would he take the risk to smoke just to make a point. He made his point by showing not even lung cancer can stop his addiction. There are people like that. They can't stop no matter what.

As a child, I though that Mr. Ramsey was doing something evil and was like, "I don't like that man anymore".

As far as comments, I cannot judge a gender as a whole just because there may be a few bad apples out there. That's silly. Thanks Ms. Irene.

You are welcome ThomasE. I agree. Besides, this board was made and is run by 3 MEN and many of the moderators are MEN. Many of the members are MEN. Why be part of a board and knock the majority here? Go find an ALL FEMALE BOARD if that is the case.
