My mom is my best friend. She is a great cook. She is always doing for others. She has fought cancer and won. She wants to go out Sat. instead of Sunday because of the crowds, so I'll take her to where ever she wants to go.

I'm getting my mom a few things but the one thing I know will mean a lot to her is a simple bottle of perfume. My mom's mom passed away about 10 years ago and my mom always kept my Grandma's favorite perfume (my Grandma loved this brand of perfume and had worn it ever since my mom was a little girl)...every once in a while my mom would spray a little and the smell would comfort her whenever she missed her mom.

Over time the perfume dried up and my mom had to throw it out and wasn't able to find that brand again in any store. I did some searching and found it. Seems kind of strange I guess -a simple bottle of perfume- but it brings back memories of her mom and I think that's pretty special

I'm not taking her out to dinner because she loves my cooking so I'm making her favorites; Baked ziti, garlic bread and Crème brulée for dessert (my favorite dessert to ).

I appreciate my mom so much. She has incredible energy with me and my 2 brothers, my two puppies, my cats, and my father. She drives me nuts with what a neat freak she is and how much of a prude she can be when it comes to clothes, but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. I love her just the way she is and if I'm half as good a mother and person as she is, I'll feel blessed.

My mom is a wonderful lady even though sometimes we can get on each other's nerve but I think that's because we are so much alike. My mom has givien me and my bother a great home and a good christian family. She does so much sometimes I think she is super woman I mean she is a nurse who works all the time even when there short handed and she still makes time to do stuff at home. My mom has been a good role model I mean the way she loves my dad, they have been married for 30 some years and they fight but nothing to where they think about seperating. My mom always makes sure her and my dad are happy with each other by the end of the day. And she has always tried to instill some christian values into my life and I love her so much for that. I couldn't of ask for a better mom.

This mothers day I am going to get her a gift and a card. Actually I am going in with my dad on one gift a new microwave but I also want to get her a digital photo keychain so she can put digital pictures of my brothers twins (Her grandsons) on there cause I know she loves showing them off then she doesn't have to keep printing pictures off the computer. Also every mothers day we celebrate by having my moms and my dad's side of the family out at our house for supper.

A Mother's Love

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

~Helen Steiner Rice~

OD answered......

"When I made woman,
I decided she had to be special.
I made her shoulders
strong enough to carry
the weight of the world, yet,
made her arms gentle enough to give comfort...

I gave her the inner strength
to endure childbirth
and the rejection
that many times will come
even from her own children.

I gave her a hardness
that allows her
to keep going and take care
of her family and friends,
even when everyone else gives up, through sickness and fatigue without
complaining....

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all
circumstances. Even when her child has hurt her badly....

She has the very special power to make a child's boo-boo feel better and
to quell a teenager's anxieties and fears....

I gave her strength to care for her husband, despite faults
and I fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart....

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but
sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him
unfalteringly....

For all of this hard work,
I also gave her a tear to shed.
It is hers to use
whenever needed and !
it is her only weakness....
When you see her cry,
tell her how much you love her, and all she does for everyone, and even though
she may still cry, you will have made her heart feel good.

She is special!

That sounds like a nice day you have planned with your Mother. I'm sure you'll both enjoy the day. I love the story of your grandmother's perfume. May I ask what perfume it was? You can tell me it's personal or none of my business, lol. Isn't it something how a smell can bring back memories of our loved ones, or even special times. My mother made delicious homemade chicken soup. Whenever I smell it now, I think of my Mom and my childhood.

Off topic, and from your avatar, I'm sure you're aware that next week, May14th, is the 10th anniversary of Frank Sinatra's passing. That seemed so sudden to me, a living legend, gone in the blink of an eye. I remember he died the night of the Seinfeld Series finale. It's so odd the things that stay with us.

I will share the day with my beloved sister. We hope to be catered to ALL DAY LONG.

My sister is 13 years older than me and has essentially been my mother since I was 6 and she was 19. I always buy her a card and something special for Mother's Day.

We will barbecue and eat eat and eat.

The perfume is called White Shoulders there's several of them out from what I saw but this one (I'm not even sure what brand it is lol I just knew the bottle) has been around for many years and can't be found in stores. I broke down and gave it to her today Even though she doesn't show it I know mother's day is bittersweet for her. She loved it...first thing she did was spray it in her room

Yes, it still seems strange to me! Frank, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.--Weird to think of them no longer around and running Hollywood. I was 10 when Frank passed away and I can remember driving home from school with my mom and dad and hearing about his passing on the radio. I cried and cried. I grew up on his music, movies and the memories my Grandma shared (she met him several times in the 40's). May sound stupid but I felt like I "knew" him and even at 10 I knew the world had just lost one of the greatest entertainers ever.
Thankfully he lives on through his recordings etc. TCM is playing his movies every wednesday and sunday for the month of May ((ha, I saw that on this site actually)) so I'm enjoying that.
Okay, I'll stop there! Gee, get me talking about Sinatra and I'll go all day

Default MOTHERS DAY

so; what's everyones plans? We (our family) are going over to my brother and sister-in-laws house in the afternoon to celebrate with our mother and her mother, with a brunch. And my brother and I are probably going to give her a gift card to BED BATH & BEYOND.

my mom and i have a dysfunctional love. lol. we call each other names but we're only kidding. she had me in her late teens and words can't describe how much i love her. sure we haVE our disagreement. what mother/son doesn't? but we always make up.
she lets me make my own mistakes and is there to pick me up every time i fall. i called her earlier and she said she didn't want anything for mothers day. not even a card or piece of candy. she's just happy being my mother. she's a sweet lady and i don't give her enough credit. so thank goodness we have this day to do that.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO EVERY MOM IN HERE. ENJOY IT!
