Default Your views on season 2

i know that ugly betty hasn't been shown in the UK since the week before xmas last year but from the episodes i saw, i thought that it was a huge downfall from the first season. of course they got rid of two of the writers- one being marco pennette- of whom i don't rate highly that much myself, what with his previous work on another sitcom, caroline in the city, where he and a few other writers came up with some lousy episodes in the latter seasons of the show. and since then and the writer's strike, it appears as if it has picked itself up.

but ugly betty has become somewhat of a bore- the brilliance of the first season due to the wacky scripts and clever writing has been replaced with melodramatic, depressing dirge. the suarez family- of whom were once lovable and full of personality have become dull and unwatchable. as for the other characters, what ever happened to marc and amanda's interaction and bond on-screen? why did marc suddenly turn from a funny, flamboyant and bitchy assistant into a character where at most times he was too serious for his own good. what is it with betty?- at first she was an outsider in mode, trying to fit in and of whom wanted not to change as a person but remain the way she is, but in the second season it is argued that she is being too smart for her own good; she has absorbed so much of the mode lifestyle, that as a result, she is part of mode and part of a lifestyle, in which she has lost some of her own identity and roots because of it. why did alexis meade turn from an interesting character during the first season into a meaningless one in the second, even after surviving the car accident?

what are your thoughts on the second season? if i was to rate the first season and the current season marks out of 10, then i'd give the first a 9 and the second a 6, from what i've seen that is

I agree the first season was better, & much funnier. The second season has more of a soap opera type feel to it. And I also miss Amanda & Marks funny inter-actions. It still has some funny moments though and hopefully the third season will be better.

i do hope so as well. apparently, i read that the ratings for the second season have gone down in the US and frankly with all those changes being made i'm somewhat surprised by this. nevertheless, it seems to me as if the writers thought that they could make up for the boring storylines in the second season by hiring all these special guest stars such as gene simmons, victoria beckham, naomi campbell, when they should be concerntrating on coming up with funny dialogue, great storylines and interesting situations for the characters

I've enjoyed the second season, I'm not sure if I prefer it to the first. It has become more melodramatic this season but I still find most episodes to be pretty funny.

BTW, I want more Mark and Amanda too. They are absolutely hilarious when they're together.

the betty/henry/gio theme is actually boring me to death. i generally like romance in sitcoms and dramedies, but this one has become rather nausiating. if anything i watch ugly betty for marc and amanda, as opposed to anything else. especially the betty/henry/gio situation.

the writers instead of being consistent are just resorting to shock tactics- i.e ways to surprise its viewers to get people watching. they are either not concerntrating on developing the characters properly, or they are just simply screwing them up. whichever way you look at it, it is mess.

also you cannot just change the characters overnight in season 2 and assume that it is ok to do so without explanation? but alas, the writers did just that. it only messes with viewers heads and besides, they should've built on what they achieved with the first season, as opposed to throwing all that good stuff that they did with it away by creating meaninglesss, dull and unfunny situations and to turn it into a soap opera, which ugly betty is right now

^ Very true! I'm getting tired of the Betty/Henry/Charlie/Gio plot too. They need to move on with it one way or another. They also need to play up Christina staying with Wilhemina. Christina's doing a little snooping & so is Mark. This has the potential to be very funny. I guess we'll just have to wait & see how the rest of the season plays out. I'm guessing there will only be a few episodes left.

here's hoping the last few episodes will be some consulation for what has been a somewhat dissapointing follow-up to season 1. btw, ann, here is a sneak peak at the season 2 finale of ugly betty and what it holds in store for us:

Thumbs up

^ Here's a picture of Mark from last weeks episode. I wish they had turned out better but for some reason ABC doesn't pick up that well in my area.
