does anyone have a gps system in their car, portable or one that came with the car? do you like it?
i'm thinking of getting a portable gps navigation system for my car in a couple of weeks, but i have no idea what i need to look for as far as brands and prices are concerned. |

My husband does most of the driving these days, but our next car will definitely have a GPS system. If I'm driving, in uncharted terrority, it's not a question of if I'll get lost, but how bad I'll be lost. I've found myself alone and crying 25 miles away from my intended destination. It's been this way my entire life. GPS can save a person's life, and I think it's a wise decision to buy one.

My car came equipped with one. I didn't think I would ever use it but it is fun to play with and see how it works. I love how you can have it tell you when your turn is coming up or when the exit is a mile ahead. You can drive at ease and not have to be constantly looking at a mapquest I printed out. When we drove to Washington state, it sure came in handy.
I can also listen to the music in my vehicle and when the gps system needs to tell me abt a turn ahead or whatever, the stereo will stop for the moment that the gps system tells me the information. |

For Christmas I got a Garmin Nuvi. At first I wasn't too crazy about it, since I don't own a car, but i do use it from time to time to help me find stuff in the City, since it has setings which allow you to use it while walking and riding a bike.
I plan on using it when I start riding my bike to help me plan bike trips to Brooklyn and other places outside manhattan. It's a really small unit too, not much bigger than a blackberry, so it's easy to carry in a pocket. The one drawback is that the instruction manual is crap! There are tons of features in this thing, but the manual basically says just turn it on, and off you go!
