My Brit friend suggested I take a look at "Keeping Up Appearances".
Since the idea of regular english folk acting posh always makes me laugh he thinks this program is good fit for me. What do you think? Is this a good show in your opinion? Chris |

Hi there, 'Keeping Up Appearances' is a terrific show, i've watched every episode, it's so good i even watch the reruns on uk gold. Hyacinth Bucket(pronounced Bouquet) is the biggest snob ever. She is always having, candle light tea parties with her best Perriwinkle fine bone china tea service. To tell you the truth, i always feel so sorry for Richard(her very much hen pecked husband) She has a sister Violet, she's the one with the big house, fancy car, swimming pool and room for a pony(and that's what she tells everybody) she also has a sister Daisy who is heavy built, frumpy and married to Onslow(a work shy layabout who sits around in his vest) Hyacinth, of course is ashamed of them. Then theres sister Rose, who lives with Daisy and Onslow and she is man daft. She runs around wearing plunging necklines and skirts that just cover her bottom. Hyacinth is also ashamed of Rose. I tell you she is a snob and i love this show and if you get a chance, watch it, you won't be disappointed folks.

My favorite BritCom of all time! Hyacinth is hilarious, especially with all the shenanigans she becomes involved in trying to keep from finding out about her family and how they actually live! Patricia Routledge is a treasure!

A perfect 10! BBC America should put this show back on their lineup for sure!

It's a funny show, you should check it out! I will warn you that the jokes do tend to get tired after a while ("it's Bouquet!"). Still, I've seen it hundreds of times and it continues to amuse me

I agree, I have watched several episodes and while I love the premise, a regular English lady pretending to be part of high society, Im already tired of her character. My mother on the other hand has just started watching the show and absolutely loves it! We were watching an episode where she and her husband Richard went sailing (of course Hyacinth insists on referring to the simple boat as a "yacht") and my mother laughed herself to tears. Something she rarely does when watching TV and something which makes me feel good to see. Thanks, Christopher (Did I mention I live in a detached home? lol)

This is definitely a favorite. I believe this was also the first Britcom I ever watched.

"Hellloooooooooooo!"
I love Hyacinth. It's a great show. There is a scene where Richard is contemplating retirement and Hyacinth says something to the effect of "You'll get to spend every day with me." The look on his face when he contemplates that fate is priceless. A wonderful show with a great cast. There were two Roses, however -- I wish I knew the actresses' names, because there's one I like and one I don't. |
