Oh No Police: recovered body appears to be Szostak

Police: recovered body appears to be Szostak

ALBANY - Twenty-one year old Joshua Szostak disappeared sometime after he left the Bayou Cafe in downtown Albany just before Christmas. And since then, his family and friends have been actively and relentlessly searching for him.

They tried retracing his steps, hanging up posters, hiring an investigator. Doing everything they could to find the missing man.

There was a search of the Hudson River in January in Albany, using sonar technology...still nothing.

Then, miles away in Coxsackie and months later, a boater found a body in the Hudson River. A white male floating freely in the water with some personal belongings. Albany police say they believe it is Szostak.

"Items that were found on him, and I'm not going to get into the specifics of it, lead us to believe that it is him, but obviously we don't have confirmation until the autopsy is complete," says Police Spokesperson James Miller.

Miller says the clothing, too, is consistent with what they missing person had at the time.

They are trying to figure out, if it is Szostak, what happened that December night, and how he ended up in the water.

"The difficult part in that was right from the beginning. You don't want to speculate on anything that happened," says Miller. "There was an indication that he was out with friends and that he was drinking and was intoxicated. How he got into the Hudson River, hopefully we'll learn more from the autopsy."

The autopsy is being done at St. Peter's Hospital. Police are hoping to get an identification, and a cause of death, as their investigation continues.

if you want to read it. Here's our NewsChannel Site. www.wnyt.com under Local News. They found the Body, not far from where I live. But I am glad they found him, and now he can rest in Peace... but it's so sad on what happend to the young guy.

Default Autopsy: Szostak drowned accidentally

Autopsy: Szostak drowned accidentally

ALBANY - Albany police say the cause of Joshua Szostak's death was accidental drowning.

A body found Tuesday in Hudson River was positively identified as Szostak following an autopsy performed Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old Latham man had been missing from Albany since December. His body was discovered floating in the water in Greene County.

Szostak disappeared sometime after he left the Bayou Cafe in downtown Albany just before Christmas.

Since then, his family and friends have been actively and relentlessly searching for him. They tried retracing his steps, hanging up posters, hiring an investigator -- doing everything they could to find the missing man.

There was a search of the Hudson River in January in Albany using sonar technology, nothing was found.

Then, miles away in Coxsackie and months later, a boater found a body in the Hudson River. It was a white male floating freely in the water.

The autopsy is still incomplete. It will be several weeks before toxicology results are returned.

Nonetheless, Albany Public Safety spokesman James Miller says police have closed their investigation.

Holly, who is this Joshua Szostak, and how is he nationally known? Or is this just a local story out of Albany?

Baden performs 2nd Szostak autopsy
ALBANY - A second autopsy on the body of Joshua Szostak came to the same conclusion - that the 22-year-old Latham man drowned accidentally. That's according to a law enforcement source.

The college student disappeared four months ago after leaving a bar in Albany. His body was found last week floating in the Hudson River near Coxsackie.

Albany police ruled his death an accidental drowning. But Szostak's family was not satisfied and reached out to well known forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, who performed a second autopsy Monday.

Baden wouldn't discuss his findings with the media. However, a police source says his results were the same as the first autopsy.
