I pull into Shell in Bowling Green (I was there all day) today to fill up. I didn't want to ($3.47/gallon) but I did due to being down to a quarter of a tank with a 120 mile drive ahead of me.
Well....it takes me SEVEN attempts to get my car filled up. Try 1: Pump shuts off (like it normally would with a full tank) after only a gallon-ish pumped. Try 2, Same Pump: Same exact thing. Try 3, New Pump: Tried to pay via Debit, got "See Attendant" Try 4, Same Pump: Paid...dry as a bone. Try 5, Same Pump: Attendant reset the machine...dry. Try 6, on my THIRD pump now: Try again...I get as far as "Begin Fueling Now" but it's STILL DRY. Try 7: The manager resets the pumps on that entire side, tries again. Go out, SLAM the Regular button....SUCCESS! Not to mention on the first pump I was at the buttons to decline (or accept) a carwash and receipt were broken, so I was screaming at the machines ALREADY. Why didn't I just take a refund, you ask? By the time we all realized something was catastrophically wrong, I was hellbent on getting my gasoline from 'emeven if I had to siphon it from the main tanks. Mind you, the station employees (both older gentlemen, probably late 50s/early 60s) were great about the whole thing, but we were all confused as heck. SHEESH. |

Probably too much banging around of every button and lever within reach by people steamed at the prices.

Seth, what is it with you and cars lately??
I've had problems filling up at Marathon in the past myself, but never SEVEN attempts. That's almost as bad as the prices!!!

Isn't automation great?!
Sounds like my kind of luck. I'm the girl who spilled gas on herself TWICE in 2007.

It kind of makes you long for the day when the attendant did it all while you could sit in the car & watch.

As high as the price of gas is these days they should practically pump the gas for you.

As if going to the pumps isn't shocking enough (because of the prices!)... Wow, luckily, that's never happened to me.
