On The Verge

Starring Patrick Duffy and Catherine Hicks as Dave and Kathryn Wallace, an once-happily married Minnesota couple who are now on the verge of getting a divorce after nearly 30 years of marriage. Dave is, ironically, a successful marriage counselour, and Kathryn is a highly-popular, well-known cake decorator. Dave and Kathryn have three grown children: Vicky Wallace, 28 (Sarah Lancaster), Justin Wallace, 26 (Eric Christian Olsen), and Taylor Wallace, 21 (Thomas Dekker). Vicky is a registered nurse who wants to go into pediatrics, due to her love of children and her longing to become a mother. Justin is a former addict who spent his youth rebelling and in and out of rehab centers, who now has convinced everyone--including himself--that he's now clean for good, as he embarks on trying to turn over a new leaf and begin his new life. Taylor is a recent college dropout who has fallen head over heels for his new mysterious co-worker (bartender), Lexie Madsen (Lyndsy Fonseca). Despite their own personal battles/issues, Vicky, Justin, and Taylor each disapprove of Dave and Kathryn getting divorced. Dave and Kathryn's reasons for wanting a divorce are that they are getting drifting apart over the years, Dave's unsupportiveness towards Kathryn's decision to go back to school, and Kathryn's longtime on-going feud with Dave's mother. Also, to make matters worse, Justin has started a secret romance with his mother's bitter divorcee best friend, Denise Harper (Catherine O'Hara). Taylor's high school sweetheart, Bridget Jansky (Evan Rachel Wood) has returned to town with a toddler who she claims to be his biological son, also, Vicky learns her boyfriend of the past four years, Jason Bennett (Matthew Lawrence) has been cheating on her...with her best friend, Jessica Harris (Marley Shelton).
