Lightbulb You're right, 'silentbri'............

...........Bo Bo Bo IS the King; ha, ha, ha! Yeah, that man sure seems like a piece of work. Anyway, I've been surfing through most of these boards and I notice that you're rather active on them and I also read that message about you pitching some idea about a TV show? Do you know about doing that? See, for years I've been wanting to get the major motion picture, 'Road House', made into a TV series. Great idea, huh? Yeah, I've pitched this to execs from each major network and not only did they turn me down, but neither even responded. Anyway, maybe you would know more about doing it. Yeah, being that none of the actors in the flick are doing anything major with their careers at the moment (no offense to them), maybe each of the characters can be regulars in the TV series as well. Wouldn't that be pretty cool? Now how many times has there been a TV series based on a movie were the characters in this series are played by the SAME actors in the movie? That's only the tip-of-the-ice-berg as to why this idea is solid. 'Road House', let's face it, though not a box office smash at the time of its release back in '89, is a true-blue-cult-classic! A movie for 'guys who like movies'! A series can definitely be made out of it! Yeah, have a different group of bad rough guys come into the Road House and start trouble every week, only to be brought to justice in the end by the bouncers (or maybe have a regular head-villian in the series who rivals the Raod House bouncers), hot-looking chicks, a different blues-legend like BB King or Bo Didley guest-starring and performing in the Road House in a differnet episode each week, WOW, the list of ideas goes on! So I was wondering, if you and your other buddies on these boards have nothing to do, and you need a break on trying to pitch your own TV series (that I DO wish you lots of luck on), do you think that you guys can pitch or petition something to get 'Road House' made into a TV series? Execs from Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS won't listen to me. Maybe they'll listen to TV fans from around the nation instead. See what you guys can do, if you got the time. Only thing, it's GOT to star Patrick! Thanks, and

'I love you, Bo Bo Bo! You're the KING!' Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!! The quote made my week! Good work, Bri!

Roadhouse would have amde a good TV series... back in 1986 or so. Hour-long action/adventure series are dead right now, probably won't be popular again for another 4 or 5 years... you could try pitching it then!

Right now, the only shows the networks are interested in are sitcoms and reality-tv (like Survivor), and according to some recent articles I've rwead, the age of the sitcom is dieing quickly! I'd say that 90% of pitching an idea to a netowrk is all about timing. Sure, Roadhouse has a large cult following, but would that cult following tune in every week? Doubtful. Cult does not translate well to television. Try to imagine a "Roccky Horror Television Show", or "Evil Dead: The Series". They just wouldn't work! Just the same as how "Planet of the Apes", "Friday the 13th: The Series", and "Clerks: The Animated Series" all failed, a Road House series would also fail after maybe half a season.

The sad truth of the matter is that Movies just don't translate well to tellevision

Meanwhile, I'm still looking for information on how to go about pitching an idea to Hollywood... does ANYBODY know how to do this?

Read Garry Marshall's autobiography silentbri (it's really good...and a 10 page forward by Penny Marshall too!). It's called "Wake me When it's Funny" but it goes by "How to Break into Show Business and Stay There," too. I don't think it says exactly how to pitch an idea to Hollywood. The way Garry Marshall did it was he started out as a writer for shows (don't ask me how he got THERE), then wrote and shot his own television pilot, and sent it off to ABC...but I still have no clue how you could start out as a writer. He was a freelance joke writer with his partner at the time, Fred Freeman, maybe Jack Paar saw some of his jokes and asked him to write on his staff...

"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"
