Default Freaky Friday

this is something i've been thinking about doing for a few days. i'll still work on 'm & d.' i just thought this would be fun to do on the side.
***

backstory: all the girls attend Eastland School for Girls and work in the kitchen/cafeteria.
***

(Girl's room. It's a dark and stormy night. Nat and Tootie are on their beds. Nat is reading, while Tootie is listening to music through headphones plugged into the radio.)

Nat: This is so peaceful.
Tootie (singing): I can't waste time so get in the moment. I realized nothings broken. No need to worry about everything I've done. Live every moment like it was my last one. Don't look back, got a new direction. Love you once, needed protection.
Nat: I spoke too soon.

(Blair and Jo walk in soaked)

Jo: I can't believe you!
Blair: Me? This was all your fault!
Jo: My fault?
Nat: Girls, what's going on?
Blair/Jo: Ask her.
Tootie: Can't a girl get her grove on without all this yelling?!
Nat: Toot, you're 12. You're too young to know what a grove is.
Tootie: Is that so? Well, let me tell you something...

(Mrs. Garrett walks in)

Mrs. G: Alright girls. What's going in here?

(They don't hear her. They just keep fighting.)

Mrs. G: HEY!!!

(The girls silence themselves)

Mrs. G: I said what's all the yelling about about.

(The girls starts explaining at the same time)

Mrs. G: One at a time.

Blair: I'll start. Jo thought it'd be a good idea to set us up on double dates.
Jo: Because I wanted to pay you back for all those times you took me out on dates. Besides, it's time you saw what a man really is.
Blair: That trailer trash junkie was no man.
Jo: Don't talk about Bob like that. He's a good friend of mine.
Blair: He burned down a diner in Tennessee because a waitress with a glass eye looked at him funny.
Jo: Man's gotta respect his personal space.
Blair: Anyway, he Jo's date...
Jo: Terence.
Blair: Picked us up on motorcycles. At the time it wasn't raining, but I still didn't like the idea. My hair only looks good wind-blown when a fan is doing it and I'm taking glamor shots.
Jo: A lot of air-brushing goes into them things, huh?
Blair: How dare you?!
Mrs. G: Never mind! Just explain why you're wet.
Blair: Well, while we eating at -and I'm kidding- Ben's Barn and Beer, it started raining. I was more than happy to call my limo driver and tell him to pick us up. But apparently, Bob -my date- thinks limos are the work of Satan and he insisted he drive us back here on his motorcycle.
Jo: You didn't have to come!
Blair: I wanted to be nice!
Mrs. G: Alright, Natalie. Tootie. Tell me why you're fighting.
Natalie: I can never get anything done with her!
Tootie: Me? What do I do?
Natalie: You sing while I'm trying to read a book that has to be turned in by Monday! I'm only on page 87 out 400 and something.
Tootie: Excuse me for trying to have fun. I like sining. I can't help that!
Nat: I know but the thing is, you do it every time I'm trying to do something important: reading, writing, homework.
Tootie: Why don't you tell me to stop?
Nat: Because we're best friends! NOW BE QUIET!
Mrs. G: I don't know what to tell you girls. I think you have to work these on your own.
All: But, Mrs. Garrett!
Mrs. G: I'm sorry. But I got to thinking and I have been there for all your problems. As much as I love you all, I'm not going to be around forever. Now, if you can't come up with a solution, come to me and I'll help out. But this time, try it on your own. Keep it down. Good night.

(She shuts the door and walks back to her room)

Tootie: Some help she was!
Blair: Guys, Mrs. Garrett is right. We have to work this out on our own.
Nat: Right. I'm sorry, Toot.
Tootie: It's my fault. I should have checked to make sure I wasn't bothering you.

(They hug)

Blair: Well?
Jo: Well, what?
Blair: I'm waiting for my apology.
Jo: Well, you best ask somebody else because you aren't getting one from me.
Blair: Have you any idea who made this dress? Gucci! Have you any idea how much it cost? A fortune! Now, it ruined by water and mud.
Jo: Have you any idea how much I don't care? Besides, I told you the guys were ex-cons.
Blair: I thought you said ex-neo-cons. I thought they went to full blown conservatives.
Jo: Not my fault you don't clean the wax out of your ears. Good night.

(She goes to the bathroom to change into her pajamas)

This is good so far, but please don't forget about your other story. I can't imagine writing two at once...I'm having a hard time making updates with just one.

The next day... (Friday)

(The girls room. All the girls are asleep. Blair is the first to open her eyes. She looks around her, strangely)

Blair (thinking): Why am I on Blair's side of the bed?

(She gets out of bed, goes to the bathroom and looks in the mirror)

Blair I AM BLAIR! HOW THE HECK DID THIS HAPPEN?
***

(The girls room. Jo is the next to wake up)

Jo: Why am I on Jo's bed? Lord only knows what she does in here.

(She gets up to stretch just as the alarm goes off. Tootie wakes up)

Tootie: Good morning, Jo.
Jo: I'm not Jo, I'm Blair.
Tootie: Yea. And I'm the Queen of England.
Jo: I met her once. Nice lady.
Tootie: Jo, stop fooling around and go to the bathroom.
Jo: I'm telling you I'm not Jo! Can't you tell blond hair when you see it? Jo has brown hair.
Tootie: So do you.
Jo: What?!
Tootie: Look.

(Tootie opens her mirror and takes out a handheld mirror. She gives it to Jo, who screams. Blair marches in)

Blair: What's going on?
Jo: I was going to ask you the same thing.
Tootie: You guys are creeping me out.
Blair: Why am I you?
Jo: Why am I you?
Blair: Don't repeat everything I say!
Jo: I wasn't.
Natalie: Can't a girl get some privacy around here?
Blair: You want privacy? Sleep in a coffin.
Natalie: Blair, what's the matter? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
Jo: I'm Blair.
Natalie: I'm confused.
Tootie: Join the club. And I've been awake since this whole thing began.
JoOk, rethink what happened last night. We went out to eat, altho you ate. I was too bust being grossed out my Bob's tattoo of a spider eating a **** roach.
Blair: I thought ti was tasteful.
Natalie: Ok, something differently weird is going on.
Tootie: I saw a movie like this once. A mother and daughter never stopped fighting. One day, Friday, they woke up and they had each others body. The mom was inside her daughters and the daughter was inside her mothers.
Jo: That's the most ludicrous thing I've every heard.
Tootie: Got any other ideas?
Jo: Maybe... no. Or we could have.... no, that's not good either.
Tootie: I rest my case.
Natalie: Freaky Friday. I saw that, too. Very funny.
Blair: I missed that one. How did it end?
Tootie: They learned to love each other and switched back to there old selves.
Jo: Impossible. Me love Jo. That's ridiculous.
Blair: Hey, you aren't no bundle of roses either, contrary to what you might think.
Jo: Really? Well, let me in on a little secret, Polniazk...
Natalie: I think you guys don't graps the love thing.
Jo: Butt out, Natalie!

(Mrs. Garrett walks in)

Mrs. G: Jo.
Blair: Yea. I mean...
Jo: Yea.
Mrs. G: I just got off the phone with your mother and she's coming to pick you up this afternoon something about a party.
Blair: Little Mac's 8th birthday I forgot.
Mrs. G: What?
Jo: I mean, Jo told me about it and was aking her how she could have forgot.
Blair: I didn't. Thanks, Mrs. Garrett.
mrs. G: Sure. Now, girls. Hurry up and get dressed.

(She walks out)

Jo. Great. Now what are we going to do?
Blair: I don't know.
Jo: Well, I'm not going to the Brox. A Warner in the Bronx? People would think the world was upside down?
Blair: Your face is goingot be upside down if you don't shut up. If I can't think of anything, you're going to go as me.
Jo: And why should I?
Blair: Because Little Mac has had a rough life already at the age of 8. His dad bailed outon his family and his mom is a recovering crack head. i was there for him through the hard times because he was my next door neighbor and I was babysitting him while his mom was in rehab. I promised ot be there for him.
Jo: Fine. I'll go. But you owe me. What does one wear to the Bronx?
Blair: A nice pistol and a smile.

(She walks out of the room. Jo moans)
***

Basically, Blair is Jo and vise versa. When I type in Blair, that's really Jo talking. When I type in Jo, it's Blair talking.

LOL! Blair and Jo switching bodies. This should be funny. I love Freaky Friday. I read the book in Junior High and I've seen both movies. It's an intersting concept for a FOL fic. Can't wait to read more!

Ok, for those who've read my last fan-fic (Mothers and Daughters) I said after I was done with that one, I would start back on Freaky Friday. So here it is. I'm changing my writing format to that of a book. Enjoy.
***

Later that day, at a rundown looking apartment, Blair Warner was in a place she thought she's never be: the Bronx as Jo.
"Here we are." Jo's mother, Rose, exclaimed as she opened the door and walked in. Blair looked around with a sour look on her face. Guess pigsty runs in the family, she thought.
"I'll be right back." Rose said. "I have something for you."
"Can't wait to see it." Blair replied, trying to sound happy. After Rose ran to her bedroom, Blair ran her hand over the coffee table and looked at it. Sour face again. She went to the kitchen sink to wash her hands, and turned the hot water knob, but no water came. She tried the cold. Nothing.
Just then, Rose can back in, holding something behind her back.
"I was cleaning the other day and guess what I found." She brought a pink stuffed bear out from behind her back. "Mrs. Bear. Remember her? She was your best friend the first 5 years of your life."
"How could I forget?" Blair asked, a confused look on her face.
Rose looked at her watch. "Oh, I have to go. Make yourself at home. You know where everything is. I love you." She grabbed her purse off the back of a kitchen chair, kissed Blair on the cheek and walked out.
Blair picked Mrs. Bear up off the couch, where Rose and left her and looked at it. It looked worn, with one of the button eyes almost loose, the stuffing falling out of the bottom of it and matted hair. Poor thing, Blair thought. Then a smile came to her face. You just might be perfect for me to get even with your real mommy the next time she calls me names.
***

Meanwhile, back at Eastland. Jo, Natalie and Tootie were in the kitchen, cleaning up from lunch.
"How do you think Blair is doing?" asked Tootie, washing a lunch tray.
"If I know Blair, she's probably suffering from lack of Bloomingdale's in walking distance." Jo replied.
"I think she'll surprise us and live through it."
"The girl runs around here screaming 'it's the end of the world!' if she breaks a nail."
"She does not!"
"Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but not much. My point is, no way she can last in the Bronx the entire weekend."
"I still say she's going to surprise us."
"I just got done sweeping. Mrs. G's cleaning off the tables. Anything I can do in here?" Natalie asked, walking in the kitchen.
"Nope." Jo replied, who was drying dishes and putting them in there respectable places as Tootie washed them. "Just about finishing up in here."
"I can't believe Blair is in the Bronx. I never thought I'd live to see the day."
"And now that's enough." Tootie spoke up. "We don't know if Blair will make it or not. So why are you two making jokes about it, as if she'd already failed?"
"You're right." Natalie replied, looking ashamed as she felt. "Who are we judge her? Like you said, she may pull through."
"Believe me. I know my neighborhood. There is no way Blair Warner will make it. She's too soft."
"I guess we'll find out later." Natalie said. "She's supposed to call us."
"Girls!" Edna Garrett's voice sounded from the cafeteria. "Would you come here for a minute and help me move this table?"
The girls walked out of of the kitchen.
"Oh, no!" Jo exclaimed when they walked in. Monica Warner stood before them. "Ma!" she said, chocking back fear as to why Blair's mother was here. "What are you doing here?"
"Ma?" Monica asked, curiously.
"I mean mother."
"I'm here to take you take you shopping."
"Shopping?"
"Yes. I just got accepted into a new country club and I need something fabulous to wear tonight because they have dinners for each new member. Will you help me?"
"Um..."
"Oh, is that alright, Mrs. Garrett?"
"I guess." The red-headed woman replied. "Somebody can collect today's work from her other classes."
"Terrific. What do you say, Blair?"
"Um..." Jo said again, feeling sick. Shopping? What a waste of time. "Sure."
"Great. Now, get out of that apron and lets go."
Jo slowly walked to the kitchen, dreading every step she took.
"Where's Jo?" Monica asked, looking around the room.
"Lets just say she's not her old self." replied Natalie, trying desperately to hold back the laughter that was busting to escape.

Awesome job Brandon! I love your new writing style too. I prefer the book format myself because you can portray so much more than just the words characters say...you can explore their thoughts, feelings, emotions.

I love Blair's reaction to Jo's apartment and I am already laughing picturing Jo shopping with Monica Warner.

I can't wait for more!

Hey Brandon, I was just wondering how your writing is coming along on this story? I'm not trying to rush you or anything, but I was hoping you'd add more soon.

I know I haven't updated this in a while but alot has been going on. One of my cousins had her baby on Sunday and I would like to spend time with the family as much as I can. And this weekend, I may not update because my mom will be in town because of my cousin and her baby (its not the one I'm babysitting for, thank goodness. lol)
But (you may quote me): more is coming!
Sorry the delay.
PS: Thanks for showing interest, Billie. That means alot.

Awww...well congrats on the new baby! I know you are glad you won't be babysitting, but can just enjoy the little darling for a while. Have fun with your mom too. Sounds like you have been very busy and will be busy for a while.

I can wait for more...I was just wondering about it since you hadn't updated. Enjoy your family time!

Ok, so my mom left yesterday because she had to work today. I thought we'd be spending the weekend together, but she had other plans. Oh, well. At least I can update (which is what I'm going to do now. )
And would you please say a prayer for my uncle and my church. My uncle is in the hospital because he dehydrated. He seldom drinks anything and he works himself crazy, which is why he's in the hospital now (to my knowledge) and very early Friday morning (in the 1:00 hour), the church I attend burnt to the ground. It's still standing but barely. We don't know the cause yet. So, please keep that in your prayers as well as my uncle. Thanks.
Now, enough with the sadness and onto some laughs. Enjoy
***

Later that night, Blair was asleep on the couch. She found Jo's bed too lumpy and the couch wasn't much better. But what could she do? Sleep on the floor? Blair Warner? She wouldn't be caught dead doing a thing like that. It was... un-Warner-like.
She was almost in dream-land when a loud noise sounded. Blair jumped up. The lights came on and she saw Rose punching in a code on a security system. The alarm stopped. Rose looked at Blair.
"Sorry." said Rose. "Did I wake you?"
"No. I always jump up in the middle of the night. And, thanks. I had to go to the bathroom anyway."
"Haggerelli, our new land lord, installed alarm systems in everybody's apartment. Weather they wanted them or not. Thankfully, the tenants didn't have to pay for them."
"You mean to tell me he has the money to install an alarm system, but not enough to fix the faucets? I tried to take a shower earlier. I never heard like the moaning when I turned on the hot water."
"You mean those things are out again?" asked Rose in shock. By this time, she already in her aparment, sitting on the couch next to her 'daughter.' "He said he 'fixed' them last week. I'll call him in the morning. I'm sorry."
"Not your fault."
"Well, you get some sleep. You have a big day tomorrow."
"Doing what?" asked Blair, a worried look on her face.
"Lil' Mac's birthday."
"Oh, yeah. That."
"Have you gotten him a gift?"
"No."
"Jo."
"I'm sorry, ok. But I've had other things on my mind. Before I go, I'll swing by Toy R Us and pick him up something."
"Toys R Us, huh? Very thoughtful, considering we don't have a Toys R Us anywhere near these parts."
Blair realized what she just said. "Um..." She said, trying to think of something to cover her mistake. Come on, Warner. She told herself. You're a smart girl. Think! "I was just kidding." She made a half-laugh, hoping Jo's mother would believe her.
"I've heard better." Rose replied, smiling. She got up off the couch.
"Anyways, you need some sleep. You need to be at the orphanage at 10:00 sharp."
"Orphanage?"
"Yea. Where Lil Mac's birthday party is going to be."
"He's an orphan?"
"Jo, don't you remember? His parents were killed in a drive-by. Since he has no other family, he had to go to the orphanage. Are you alright?"
"Yea. I'm fine. I've just been away too long."
"Alright. Well, get some sleep. I love you." Rose leaned down and kissed Blair on the forehead and walked out of the room, turning off the light before she walked out.
Blair laid down, not believing what she just heard.
***

Meanwhile, back at Eastland, Tootie and Natalie were laying in bed, studying when Jo walked in, limping. She limped all the way to her bed, where she took off her shoes and laid down.
"How did it go?" Tootie asked, trying to hide a grin.
"Miserable." Jo replied. "Every dress that woman tried on was either too loose and made her look fat or it showed too much flab, but she didn't want want it to cover up her entire body. I almost said 'face it, lady. You're getting old! Plastic surgery can only do so much.' "
Natalie and Toot couldn't hide it any longer. They laughed.
"Have you heard from Blair?" Jo asked, still laying down.
"Yeah, she called earlier. She said she'd call back tomorrow."
"And did you tell her where I was at?"
"No, I didn't spoil your reputation, material girl."
"Not funny!" Just then, something hit Jo. "Oh, great!"
"What?" Tootie asked, still laughing.
"I have to go to the bathroom but I'm afraid if I stand, my feet will be so mad at me for putting them through this torture, they'll make me fall."

The next day... (Saturday)

"Well, would you please tell her I called?" Blair asked.
"Sure thing." replied Natalie. "Any idea when you're coming home?"
"Hopefully tomorrow. I can't take much more of Bronx living."
"Hang in there. Have faith."
"Thank you, Hallmark!" From the corner of her eye, Blair caught a clock on the wall. 9:30. "Listen, Nat. I have to go. Tell Jo to call me back."
"Will do. Bye."
"Bye."
Blair hung up the phone and ran out of the apartment. As she walked out of the building, a man -no older than 25, but looking older and wearing something near to rags- that sitting on the curb dug his cigarette out on the road and followed her.
"Jo, wait." He said.
"I don't have time to wait."
The man grabbed her by the arm, pulling her to a stop.
"What do you think you're doing?" She asked in a hostile voice.
"You said to come to you whenever I needed you. I need you know."
"I don't even know you. Now, if you'll please let me go, I have to go to a birthday party." Blair jerked free of the man's grip and continued walking. He walked along beside her.
"Whose?" He asked. "Lil' Macs?"
"If you must know, yes."
"Can I come with you?"
"No."
"But..."
"I said no. I'm going to be late enough as it is and I don't need you to make me any more late." And with that, Blair ran as fast as she could. Luckily, after Rose went to bed, she looked at a map so that she could know the exact location on The Hope Orphanage, where Lil' Mac stayed. She must have traced her finger on the roads leading to it a dozen times before she feel asleep.
The man looked after her, an unhappy gleam in his eye. He kicked a nearby trash can and walked back the direction he came.

This is really good Brandon. It really makes you think about what it might be like to live in someone else's shoes. Plus, it makes me laugh !

As for your unlce and your church...of course I am praying. I am so sorry to hear such sad news about your church and I hope your uncle will feel better and be home soon.

Oh, my goodness! Jo being Blair and Blair being Jo...talk about a Freaky Friday alright!!!! Blair cracked me up, thinking sleeping on the floor was "un-Warner-like"....sooo funny! And Jo wanting to say to Monica, "Face it lady, you're old...plastic surgery can only do so much!" Totally in their characters...hillarious! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.

As for your uncle and your church, I already said this in PM, but I am really sorry about everything that's happened and I have said some prayers. Do try to hang in there!
