Alicia Keys Discusses Conspiracy Theories

NEW YORK (April 12) (AP)- There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin"' and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.

This doesn't sound like something she would say, so i'm going to wait until she and/or her publicist actually confirms it or not.

Do publicists confirm what entertainers say in magazine articles? If it's not true, I'd expect a denial and retraction soon.

No offense to Alicia, but I really don't believe that. I doubt she knows what she's talking about.

Great. Another singer with an agenda.

The East Coast/West Coast fued was fueled by the record companies. To sell records.

Sometimes, It has happened to a few celebs who "claim" that the interviewer has twisted their words. I'll check to see which ones, I know that Lindsay Lohan was one of them, Lauryn Hill is another one when supposely she said that "I rather have my baby starve than let some white kid buy my music".

This sounds like something that 50 Cent or someother uneducated bonehead would say, Alicia is too educated to sound like an ass. If she said it, then she's pretty blind and uninformed. Gangster rap started in 1988 with NWA, they started it, not the government. The blame game is getting old, the government doesn't control what artists put out.

This does sounds like something that Lauryn Hill might say though. Lauryn has been off her rocker for the last ten years.

Alicia did say it, it is all over the news where I work. I always respected Alicia for her music, but damn this broad is a few slices short of a loaf. Her publicist, of course will spin things differently, that is what a publicist does...and what does Lauryn Hill have to do with this?

Because, I mentioned Lauryn Hill eariler when I said that sometimes celebs comments get spunned out of control by an interviewer, like Jessica Alba. So that is why, all I said is that this sounds like what Hill would have said instead of Alicia, if you have followed Lauryn's music and personal life like I had, you would know that Lauryn had said some not so nice and stupid things throughout the 1990's.

Even if Alicia said it, I still like her music.

Nobody is saying not to like her music, but there is no denying the chick is out of her ever flippin' mind.

True, she has truly lost her mind. The government is not to blame for the state of rap music. The blame game is really getting OLD! If Alicia, wants to put the blame on something, then put the blame on where it belongs, the record company and the artists themselves!

Alicia isn't the first person to blame the government for the east-west coast thing, it's sad how uneducated and blind some people sound. ESPECIALLY, celebrites.

Alicia Key's official website links to Blender magazine, where she made the comments. It doesn't have the full article, but she sure as hell knows what's in the article.
