Instead of letting the sitcom basically die I would have a reality network channel or maybe 2 if needed and still have made for TV movies and sitcoms on the basic channels.
I would never let the music channels change their format to reality TV, and I would not eliminate classic programming. |

Climb in a time machine with all producers and writers of comedies, take them back to the 60s and 70s, and show them what sitcoms SHOULD LOOK LIKE NOW.
Keep "real" people off TV. These so-called reality TV "stars" are obnoxious and make everyone in this country look like freaks. |

I would have no reality programs except for "The Real World". All dramas, sitcoms and sci-fi's... maybe the occasional soap.

I'd make sure that NBC never fired Fred Silverman. Then we'd still be getting at least one network with innovative programming that was given a chance to grow an audience.

That would be my wish. Reality programming is killing TV. Let the writers write!

I wouldn't cancel all of anything. Every type of TV show has its place and I'd give primetime much more variety. There's been so much homogenization, it's ridiculous.

I would keep an even balance between programming. With all the evolving TV networks, and so many to choose from, I would make sure all types of programs got a fair shot. Reality TV always existed, just in a better way. And SOME reality TV is in fact interesting (I'm not talking about High School Reunion). Reality would not domoinate however. Classic programming from all decades, game shows of all decades, cartoons of all decades would all be available. Also, I would have kept the independent station format rolling.
As far as new production is concerned, I would like to see normal looking people playing roles, as opposed to cardboard cut-outs who dominate the airwaves. Also, why not bring back interest in cop shows, more drama, and the sitcom the way they used to be. Writing should also be top notch. |

I would go on a time machine back to the early 60s and create my own entertainment studio, making movies and tv shows. By the late 60s, my company will launch a minor television broadcasting service that would air a primetime syndication block (like Operation Prime Time and My Network TV) from 8pm to 11pm. The syndication block will be a success, which will convert my broadcasting service from a minor television network to a fourth major broadcast network by the mid 70s (in the same vein as the "Big Three"). By the late 70s, my company will have its first cable network. By the early 80s, my network will sing a deal with the MLB and the NBA.
Sadly, my company doesn't exist (since I wasn't born until the mid-60s). And now we're stuck with this poor excuse of a real network that runs from 8pm to 10pm on primetime (FOX). American television would have been much better if we had the Overmyer Network (an ill-fated network from the 60s) as the "Fourth Television Network". However, America had to wait until 1987 (which was pretty close to the 90s) with the launch of FOX TV. |

Stop glorifying the worst parts of society with shows which use murder as entertainment, (So called crime dramas) or who glorify the criminal element, whether real or fictional ( Growing up Gotti, the Supranos) or just the worst parts of our culture (The Osbornes...and all other counterculture reality shows)
