We haven't discussed this case in a while. It was the heartbreaking case where their little girl was found wandering at a store and said "mommy's in the trees". Her mom was found murdered in the woods and her dad nowhere to be found. I still tend to think Mike Riemer murdered her and took off. I think there's a good chance he may have even been responsible for murdering the couple that was found only 15 miles away from Diana's body a short time earlier. Mike was known to have traps in that area and had a history of violent behavior. Both female victims had a sock tied around their neck. Someone recently told me that Mike Riemer has now been added to the doenetwork. I also noticed it says on there that Diana was stabbed 17 times and I'm not sure if UM mentioned that or not. Here's his profile:

I always found it odd that the little girl said "mommy is in the trees" yet the body was found along the side of road and from what I can recall was not actually in the woods. perhaps the body was later moved. It always struck me as well that the little girl didnt have more information. Either it was so terrible she couldn't recall anything or she wasn't witness to everything that happened which makes you wonder how that came about. I also always wondered how the little girl got to the store? Apparently she was left at a K-mat that Diana and Mike had visited that same day they vanished. If she was left there before everything happened then how did she come up with "mommy is in the trees"?
Or who took her back there? Since a serial killer probably wouldnt take the time to take a young girl back to a store her parents just happened to visit the same day after killing them, I'm gonna same Mike did it and took her back there....and either left for a new life...or went off to commit suicide. |

Yes I've always thought that the girl saying who brought her to the store and the contents of the envelope that said "I Love You Diane" on it were also kept secret.
It's interesting to think of the little girls point of view in all of this. Now granted I'm not a two year old so my thinking may be different, but....if i was standing next to the truck and saw my mommy either being killed or her body being dumped right onto the side of the road, I might not be so tempted to say she was in the trees. However if you pull your perspective back....say down the road or from a distance I might be tempted to say that...which may indicate that whoever did the murder possibly made her wait a distance away so she wouldn't quite see what happened. Possibly someone who cared for her... like Mike. I don't know. Just a thought. Ive always been bothered by her phrasing of it. I seem to recall reading the newspaper reports stating her body was located next to the truck along the road....which was overgrown.....I tend to think her body wasnt that far into the woods if at all. |

My own personal theory on this case is that Mike Riemer probably is the killer. I guess it is possible an unknown third party was killing people and hid Mike's body. But in order for that to be true the killer would have to know about Mike's past and know that if it looked like Mike was gone that the cops would just assume Mike was the killer. Mike Riemer by all accounts had a temper. Riemer and Diana Robertson had an extensive history of domestic violence. I think Riemer "lost it" and ended up killing Diana leaving the signature tube sock tied around the neck.
Riemer in my opinion was also the killer of the couple that had died a few months earlier not far away. However in that case a pistol was used whereas Robertson was stabbed. So more questions are raised here than answers. Diana was stabbed 17 times which is a very personal style killing. It isnt so much I have doubts that Mike killed Diana but I do have a little doubt whether he killed the other couple, only because of the difference in styles. However for the tube sock to be tied in an identical way in both cases, seems to be more than coincidence. Then for the truck to be left there and the daughter to be dropped off, it just makes one wonder. If Mike did do this than he either had help or he perhaps hitchhiked into town, but I would think someone would remember giving a ride to him and a little girl. So that makes me think Mike probably had help from someone that helped him get back into town to drop off his daughter. If Mike didnt do it, well than the mysterious killer took the little girl back into town and dropped her off. However notice how the little girl only said "mommy" is in the trees. She didnt say "mommy and daddy" are in the trees. I have also always wondered if Mike could possibly have been the person that killed Jay and Tanya in 1987? I dont think serial killer Charles Sinclair killed Diana Robertson or the other couple in 1985 because Sinclair's big signature was taking material possessions. From what was said no material possessions were taken in the 1985 cases. Whereas in Jay and Tanya's case, material possessions were taken. Just a lot of unanswered questions. |

Can you refresh my memory as to who Jay and Tanya were? As for this case, I too lean towards Mike having committed all of the murders and then dropping off the child at the K-Mart before leaving to start a new life. I just don't see a serial killer who didn't know the child doing something like that as a serial killer who didn't know the child would likely kill the child as well.

It was Mike Reimer who placed her there. A serial killer would not do that. A serial killer would not hide one body (Mike Reimer) and left the other body for all to see (Diana Robertson). My theory (and the police) is that Mike first killed Ruth Cooper, 43, and Stephen Harkins, 28, in a rage cause of his psychological problems. Then he planned to kill Diana Robertson by having a car standing near the murder place. The reason he had a car there was to take the suspicion away from himself. And it worked... But the main clue is the daughter who he did'nt manage to kill. Meaning he has some kind of humanity left in him...I have to say I am surprised that they have not manage to get the daughter to speak. I mean how old was she back then ? If she could say "Mommy is in the trees" she could also say that her father Mike Reimer placed her at the store... |

I have to agree with you. Granted she was 2 years old and probably traumatized but yould would figure she could say what happened to her dad or if he brought her back. |

Do you guys think that Mike killed the couple and could possibly be the serial killer? He seemed to have a bad temper so I can speculate on a scenario where he came across the couple near where he had his traps and was angered thinking they were trying to steal his gain. Again just speculation on my part. It doesn't make sense that Diana was killed by a stranger since her daughter was dropped off in a faily safe place. A serial killer wouldn't care if the daughter was taken care of. If someone had killed both Mike and Diana it doesn't make sense that his body wasn't found anywhere around.

Well, the one big thing that did it for me was the tying of the tubesock. That was a detail never revealed to the public when these killings first happened. So if this was some mysterious killer, that is one heck of a coincidence of the unique tying of the tubesock. Also why stash Mike's body? Finally, the envelope. It was in Mike's handwriting, yet unless Mike just left manila envelopes laying around in his truck for no apperant reason he had this thing planned out months in advance. Also, how his daughter said "Mommy is in the trees" but didnt say "Mommy and Daddy are in the trees". My guess is that Mike Riemer dropped off his daughter at the strip mall and escaped only to remain on the run to this day. Also, Mike Riemer's dad Lloyd passed away on September 27th, 1993, he was 85 years old.
