Default ‘Monk’ Star Stanley Kamel Found Dead

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Stanley Kamel, well known for playing Dr. Charles Kroger on the hit USA series “Monk,” has died, Access Hollywood has learned.

Kamel was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home on Tuesday. He was 65.

Access Hollywood has learned Kamel died of a heart attack.

Kamel has appeared in numerous TV roles over the past three decades, including “The West Wing,” “Six Feet Under,” “Melrose Place,” “The Golden Girls,” “Days of Our Lives” and “Murder One.”

Pop culture fans will remember Kamel from his eight-episode arc in 1995 on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” as Tony Marchette, the father of Rebecca Gayheart’s character.

A rep for the USA network, which airs the Emmy-winning “Monk,” released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“USA is deeply saddened by the news of Stanley Kamel’s passing. Stanley was an amazingly talented and extremely kind man, and an important member of the USA family. He will be sorely missed.”

That's too bad. I always enjoyed his scenes with Monk. I totally forgot he played Tony Marchette on 90210. He was great on that show too. R.I.P. Stanley.

Sad

Wow, I can't believe I never responded to this thread! Then again, up until a few months ago, I didn't even know this board existed!

I loved Stanley. In recent years, Dr. Kroger had become my favorite character, and that's saying a lot for someone who isn't on all the time. I loved his gentle manor and humor.

I can't say that I've met the man in person, but I have "talked" to him. He would frequent the USA Network message boards and participated in a Q&A session we had. I asked him a question: Would you like to see Dr. Kroger become more involved in the show, and also told him that Dr. Kroger was without a doubt my favorite character. He actually responded and said that he would be extremely happy to have more screen time. I was just beyond thrilled that he responded (although I think he responded to everyone's question). I mean, to take the time to register for an account and then to answer fans questions...that's amazing!

A few months before he died, someone had posted some pictures of him from a USA event. He looked really thin and in all honesty, it's hard for me to look at those pictures. I would be happy to post one if anyone wants to see it. Anyway, someone posted it and commented that Stanley was looking kind of ill. At first I found that comment to be rude, but Stanley saw it and responded, saying that "You guys are so cool! Thanks for thinking of me." He said he had the flu but was doing better.

And the worst thing about it was that I read this AFTER I found out that he had died, so I was just distraught when I read it.

It seriously took me about a month and a half to get over his death. I just couldn't believe that he was gone. I still can't really. It hurt so bad, knowing he was gone. And the really weird thing was how I found out about it. I work in downtown Seattle and our building has a "Starbucks-like" coffee shop on the ground floor. I am always in there asking for ice water. So I was waiting for my ice water, when I just happened to look up at the screen where they have the news and so forth. I see this headline "Monk Psych Dies". At first I'm thinking it's a promo for "Monk" and "Psych". Then I see "Cast members deeply saddened." That is the worst thing to see right when you get to work. I had NO access to the Internet, so I had to wait till lunch and called my husband at work to get him to find out what happened.

Geez, sorry for my rambling here. I just still hurt when I think that Dr. Kroger is gone forever. I do like the addition of Hector Elizondo as Dr. Bell, but Dr. Kroger will always be my favorite.

Andrea
