Default I know it's not April 4, 1988 but I still need HELP-lol

When a VCR plays a tape with no problem but SHUTS OFF when you hit the RECORD button

is that a DIRTY ISSUE or a DYING ISSUE

Make sure the little record tab on the tape is in tact and not damaged in any way. I seem to remember my VCR doing the same thing when that little tab was broken off.

My VCR also did that.

It does that with any tape I put in. Plays with no problem but when hitting the record button it shuts off

I had problems with my VCR too today. I had to clean it to make it work again.

I think the VCR is either dirty (the heads might be dirty) or it is on its last leg. I used to occassionally clean the heads by using q-tips and alcohol. I would use a pair of scissors to reach the heads and clean them. But I know when it didn't want to record anymore, that it was no longer working.

Solomon, I believe it's a dying issue.

I had the same problem a few years back. It shut off every time I tried to record something. It also shut off when I would press play - without pressing stop first. And it also shut off when I would rewind it. Your better off just buying a new one. You'll be able to find a decent one for $25-$30. You can also try setting the timer when you want to record something. Maybe it won't turn off when you do that...

Salomon, I think you and I have something in common. We both have to buy a new VCR quickly, before they stop making them.

The sad part is the only type of VCR you can buy right now is the one that is the combined with a DVD Recorder or DVD Player

which means I will have to shell out about $120 next week

Just get a DVR to record your shows and burn them to discs.

Exactly it's just like a VCR, I use my DVR just about every day to record things.
