Default I guess women are doomed in the clothing department

So i'm 20 years old and my mom is 40, and we went shopping today. She is right, it is amazing how much stores these days are catering to the youth. Our mall is medium sized you could say, we have many name-brand stores and there are almost NO stores in there for women around the age of 40 and up (the general population who does not care to wear jeans with holes and skimpy tops with hollister written across it). I notice this too, our favorite store to shop WAS the Gap, and boy have they gone downhill. They are starting to cater to teens too, and maybe even pregnant women becase every top there looks maternity right now. I couldn't even find a normal button down shirt. Yeah, we didn't buy much today. Any other women around my age and my mom's age having trouble finding things that aren't for kids? Afterall, it should be adults who have a dominant amount of stores, they are the ones who actually work for their money.

I shop in junior sections because the clothes and the clothing stores that do cater to women my age (40's) have ugly fashions. They are matronly. I don't look my age, so for me to wear something that would look ridiculous on a 25-30 year olds is terrible. Now, what makes it harder is that sometimes in the junior section they have sizes that won't fit me simply because of my chest size. It takes a lot of looking but eventually I find some great things to wear.

Yeah, my mom said that too, they actually age you if anything. I mean normal clothes pretty much, just anything away from the 16 year olds. Thats why we liked the Gap, they used to have adult things (minus the holes and stupid logo's) that looked classy.I stay away from junior sections now because i rarely find anything in the junior section that fits my chest, lol

I found that Khol's has some great fashions. It is a matter of looking at the Sunday ads and seeing what is available. Shopping in the mall is horrible for fashions for women my age. Everything is catered to the teens.

I have trouble finding anything that doesn't scream "SLUT!"
Don't get me wrong I'm no prude and I love wearing tops that show some cleavage...but the key word there is "some"...almost all the tops I see show damn near everything! I'd rather walk around topless and save the $40 I have to say of all places Victoria's Secret is my absolute favorite place to buy clothing. The clothes there are sexy yet classy. Also, Macy's is nice.

You are so right, I also find VS classier than say Abercrombie and Fitch. When i shop with my fiance at A&F, i notice the male's clothing is more classier, not to mention thicker and can hold up longer and keep you warmer. Women's clothing takes up approximately less than half of the store, as the clothing is so small almost needs to be seen with a magnifying glass. And then, people wonder why young girls are having eating disorders.

Those clothes seem to be made for Barbie dolls instead.

Man, I haven't been to A&F in a few years because of all those reasons you listed. It was bad then I can't even imagine how it is now. You're so right about the male's clothing though it's much better quality then the women's.

I have a hard time finding clothes because of my hips...they're bigger than they look and I have to buy tops in the next size up and they fit funny.

i mostly just wear band t-shirts from hot topic that i suppose are unisex, if not meant for males, and jeans from wal*mart...so no problems here.

Yeah, the pants are horrible. Low-rise is great, but this waist below my hips thing is for the birds. And a lot of the shirts are way too low or too tight. Or too short. Sorry, I don't like bending over and people can see my ass because the shirt's not long enough and the pants are too long.

Teens these days tend to dress like crap. I swear 75% of the girls wear pants that are 2 sizes too small, so then their fat rolls over their waistband, and then they go and wear a shirt that's too tight. And they think they're HOT. Fat rolls have NEVER been hot.

I look young for my age, too, plus have a very tall, skinny build, so finding clothes isn't really a problem. I like Kohl's and NY & Company the best for clothes shopping. The styles are simple and understated, yet they look elegant and tasteful. I like that. I do agree that too many fashions are catered to the young crowd and look so trashy. I guess it has a lot to do with where you shop for your clothes, too.

I know, it literally looks like they shopped in the children's section. I see that at school all the time. I'm wondering how the heck they got their head through some of those shirts, and then these same girls sit down, and thier crack (not just a little, a lot) is showing THE WHOLE TIME. They can't feel that? I would be so embarrassed. And to think they probably think people like me (who wear things their size) dress bad
