Default Did Lucy And Desi Ever Have Marriage Counselling?

He was a drunk, sex addict and a cheater and treated Lucy like CRAP on a cracker. Did anyone take his sorry behind to counselling to try to get him to shape up? No wonder she married Gary. She didn't want a repeat of her marriage to Desi so she settled for safe and secure! Too bad the fantasy had to end.

When they first got married, most people gave it six months, Lucy thought six weeks was more likely, LOL! She wanted to just LIVE TOGETHER, but he insisted on marriage, thinking the Latino way that he could have all the affairs he wanted, but his wife was always the one he returned to. Lucy was very broadminded and it worked out well because Desi always had broads on his mind, LOL! The answer is YES, Lucy talked him into going to marriage counselling, they went for a while, then he just stopped going. Lucy tried every doctor, advice, shrink, E V E R Y T H I N G to save that marriage, her whole life she condsidered it the biggest failure she ever had to go through. The thing is no doctor can force you to change, it has to come from the person, like when he finally quit drinking after Desi jr prodding him, unfortunately the damage was done by then, it was just too late.

Good post Splain.

Also, Desi didn't have to do much as far as women were concerned. Women threw themselves at him. A man is as faithful as his options. Imagine having Desi's looks (when he was young) and having women throwing themselves at you. It must have greatly inflated that already big ego of his to the point where he thought all women must have wanted him. I can't help but remember what Barbara Eden said abt having to avoid Desi's roving eye when she was on the set for the Country Club dance episode. She had to hide to avoid Desi's flirtations which obviously must have bothered her. I can only imagine how many other women he put his moves on that didn't like it?

I have known a few men in my life that were like that. They knew they were good-looking, they knew all they had to say was something charming (and pitiful ) to get a girl. Those are the kind of guys I always hated.

But to Desi, with all kinds of females at his disposal, with his alcohol addiction, that only fueled his fancy for females and of course, no amount of counseling was going to make him change. He was content that as long as he was with "tramps, whores, females who were not ladies" it was ok, because Lucy was a woman and he would never be with another "woman"...now, if he were with a tramp, that is different. A tramp is not on Lucy's level. Crazy Desi.

Wow, good post for you too! I'd add that he once lost everything at 16 and had to start over from scratch but he discovered that he never lost his sex appeal, until much later in life, so he took advantage of the one thing God gave him, looks with charm and a generous loving demeanor, how could women resist that? Then he also was a gambler, fun loving, funny, lived life as if it would all end tomorrow (again, due to his having lost everything at 16) a powerful man, rich, having a studio to run, a charismatic performer with Latin charm who could conga a girl to death, LOL! And drinking made him lose what little inhibitions he might have had, a playboy without peer, a boat and houses for trysts, people willing to do anything for a job or a meeting with him, bragging rights on having bedded him, it just never ends. Until his looks faded and liquor took a toll on his health, the stress, the pressure, trying to balance everything and he claimed he could never be PRACTICAL about anything so he did everything in excess and it finally caught up with him, lots of health issues later in life because of it all.

Yep, you said it Splain. Desi had his vices, that's for sure. I guess his latin looks was the first one. You toss in being successful with ILL, that gave him $$$ to which he loved to gamble with. His drinking was another vice. One vice usually churns out more vices. Desi sure lived his life like there was no tomorrow. Lucy put up with a lot.

Yes, but although i love Lucy, i am also very frank about the fact that she had her issues also, being a Leo, it was always HER WAY or the HIGHWAY! LOL! She had to be in control of the situation and people had to do things her way or prove to her that their way was ok also. It could not have been easy being Mr Ball, but unlike her second husband, he had lots of talent to back up that huge ego of his.
