I know a particular someone here who would have LOVED IT.
It depends how the spin-off would have worked. I think it would have been cool to see him be spun-off. |

I agree and I wonder who you speak of??? Hmmmmm ![]() Seriously though, Julio I think could have adapted better as a leading man than Grady. |

Hmmmm, wonder indeed.
Give it time, that member will be here posting their thoughts today I am sure of it. I always seen Grady as a sidekick. Not someone who can lead a show. Though I did watch his spin-off when it first aired. |

I've only seen the pilot episode, but from watching that, Grady could not carry a show. Julio on the other hand had some rugged good looks and good comedic timing. |

Gregory had the experience and the skills. He had a lot of work behind him by that point and showed he could take the lead of a show if given the opportunity.
The Grady actor showed us with "Grady" he was not up to par. |

Oh, you guys know me too well. I agree that while a Julio spinoff would've been AWESOME, we may have never gotten to see Gregory Sierra play Chano on Barney Miller. As much as I liked Julio, I would've rather seen a CHANO spinoff!!!

Julio probably would have been a better choice to spin off. Gregory Sierra was a bit more polished than Whitman Mayo. |

Finally seeing the Grady pilot from S&S a couple weeks ago again after a long time, I agree with the sentiment that the character wouldn't have worked well on his own show. I don't know what it was but it just felt like a letdown.

Grady needed a better supporting cast, they didn't seem to gel. His daughter was kind of snobbish. They would have had to given Julio a stong supporting cast in order to work. Some minority programs didn't seem to work, Gregory Sierra did AES Hudson Street which bombed. Viva Valdez failed as well as Condo. So in retrospect I don't think Julio would have succeeded back then.
