Default The Ropers should have been to three's Company what Laverne and Shirley was to

HAPPY DAYS!!!!.

1. Connect both shows like HD and L&S were, still having the Ropers living somewhere else in Santa Monica, Several crossover eps between TC and the Ropers like it was between HD and L&S for the first 3 seasons.

2,Air the Ropers right after three's Company like L&S was aired after happy days.

3.Have a Two Part episode involving both three's company and the Ropers like HD and L&S, part 1 on three's Company and part 2 on the ropers.

I really feel the Ropers could have succceded if it was USED the right way and stay close connected to it's parent show like L&S was with HD. That's defintely why both of those shows was in the Top 5 for 4 straight seasons. TC and TR was only in the top 5 for one season because after season 1 the two shows had a DISCONNECT-lol

I agree--if ABC had given the Ropers the prime slot after Three's Company for at least two full seasons, it might have survived later on a timeslot switch (or maybe not--Too Close for Comfort had two seasons as the lead out, then given its own slot for its third season and was promptly canceled afterwards).

The storyline crossovers would have made sense. Would have been fun seeing Jack and Ann flirt it up LOL

They also could have still had the Ropers going to the Reagle Beagle on a episode of the Ropers while a minor TC character came in like Larry with one of his dates-lol And more importantly, they could have left that KID off the show

So basically, you wanted Three's Company part two rather than the Ropers?

Since TC would have lead into the Ropers, I thought it would have been cool to see a Part 1 ep at 9pm and a part 2 TC theme ep conclude on the Ropers at 9:30pm

like how Shotgun wedding started on HD and concluded on L&S

I understand that, but in my opinion, The Ropers weren't starring material to begin with.

It was never going to get to that point anyway, because the show was doomed to fail from the very start.

I don't know Brian, I'm thinking if a different person was behind the Ropers it would have been on the air longer. No kids was needed on the show that's for sure when the ropers had come from a show that had no kid characters. I think it was more the setup and the selection of characters

Oh, I agree with you there, but if the producers REALLY wanted the show to succeed, then they would've implemented those suggestions of yours and more. It just seemed that ABC was never fully commited to the series.

They were committed until around November of 1979-lol ABC had no problems with the show after season 1

yea ABC was never committed to the show. They didn't nurture it after TC for at least a year and worst they immediately shipped it off to their worst timeslot on Saturday nights were nothing ever seemed to work for them.

It's hard to tell if the show could have really jelled if it was given the time. Plenty of shows don't get good until the 3rd or 4th seasons. I haven't seen enough episodes to even determine if this show was any good. I watched the first season ( which except for the TC crossovers I don't even remember) and I didn't watch it at all when it moved to Saturdays.

I know for a fact the Ropers situation wasn't going to hold the 18-35 viewers of TC and that's probably why the show never picked up steam. Seems like the TC producers was going for the 45 to 75 age group when creating the Ropers-lol
