I taped My Three Sons today off of a local station, and I was perturbed to see the series back at the beginning of Season 6 (first color ep where Mike & Sally marry) having just finished rerunning Season 10. I was hoping finally to see Season 11, since Nick-at-Nite only reran the B&W Seasons 1-5 and Season 12. (I only recall seeing part of one Season 12 ep, where Katie has the triplets in a tv commercial.) Is there a local station where Season 11 has been rerun? Maybe Retro TV Network can air it eventually. I don't get RTN here, but my parents do in Arkansas.

I think this has to do with the way the syndication packages are sold to stations, which for My Three Sons, makes no sense. I can understand separating the B&W episodes in one package from the color seasons, but the packaging of putting the last one or two color seasons with the black and white episodes is very off-putting. From what I heard, currently that package is not available to stations.

They should just air the entire series.

Considering how stations often double run( or in some cases, triple or quadruple) sitcom episodes, the entire series would be a very good buy, since you would have plenty of episodes to rotate without burning out too early. Some shows just do not play well as double runs (esp those that are 5 or less seasons).

I've seen nearly all of the Season 11 episodes, most recently on Hallmark around 2000-2001 if I recall correctly. You will enjoy that season!
First of all, we have the courtship of Polly and Chip. Norman Alden is fantastic as Polly's over-the-top dad, totally suspicious of Chip, overprotective, etc. Doris Singleton is well-cast as her level-headed mom. Everything surrounding their marriage and as newlyweds is of great interest to M3S fans. I think Stanley and Ronne are GREAT together. Ronne was a very welcome addition to the series. Loved seeing her work; I think she's very underrated (she had come close to getting the lead role in "The Flying Nun" series...!). There are also really nice episodes focusing on Barbara and Katie. Dodie gets into a little more grown-up situations. Don't be fooled by poor ratings given on some sites. This was a highly absorbing season, and a true M3S fan can see that the show upheld its tradition of quality. |
