I found a YouTube vid of a couple reports on Vic's passing, this clip has one from CNN Headline News and the other from Entertainment Tonight. The ET clip talks about other acting work he did.

I wonder what would have been the TV show he was supposed to do when he died.

Thanks for the info. From everything I've heard and read, Vic Tayback was a terrific guy offscreen as well, and really was like another father to Philip McKeon (Tommy).

It was really cool hearing him say how proud he was of doing Alice.

Thanx for that clip. At the 1:48 mark you can see the whole stage/set of the diner.

He died too young. One of the greatest characters ever was Mel Sharples.
