I love Lucy--her winning at this point was more of the Academy making up for the oversight of earlier seasons where she was really top notch in The Lucy Show.

To be fair, she delivered some top notch performances that season (and the next, when she won again) even if the scripts were not always up to snuff. And compared to other shows that were on at that time, TLS was actually pretty good.
