Frequently it was. Sure they had a few comedies (like the Buster Keaton silent film ep) but they more often had stories about people going to hell, a man's dead wife visiting him, a man's dead mom visiting him, wax figures murderously coming to life, an asteroid full of dead people (more scifi that Elegy but still morbid and eerie), and so on! People don't consider Dark Shadows to be like the Twilight Zone but there are similarities beside just George Mitchell (Mathew Morgan on DS) being in Jess Bell and other TZ eps too plus John Lassell (Dr. Guthrie on DS) being in the TZ ep Back There. Besides there was a TZ ep about robot servants starring beauty Inger Stevens and it looked a lot like a DS b+w ep! Besides Rod Serling looked a lot like Mitch Ryan (Burke Devlin #1 on DS) and Serling could have sued DS creator Dan Curtis for putting in a lookalike on a (what a jury may indeed have found to be) a similar themed show!

Serling probably enjoyed the similarites that DS had. Or frankly, didn't give a crap abt it. He was on a hit show, so why would he care?
