Default "Dexter" actress cut out for "Saw V" role

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Julie Benz, a co-star in Showtime's serial-killer drama "Dexter," has joined the cast of "Saw V," the next outing in the annual horror franchise.

Benz plays a Brit with clothes and hair too proper and elegant to be a pawn in the latest games of the evil Jigsaw (played by Tobin Bell).

Production began March 17 in Toronto; an October 24 release is planned via Lionsgate. David Hackl -- the production designer on the previous three "Saw" films -- is directing.

Benz, who plays the titular hero's girlfriend in "Dexter," recently appeared in theaters with "Rambo."

Didn't Jigsaw die two movies ago?

Bad news. I liked Dexter's girlfriend. I wish they'd replace the actress who plays his sister. She works my last nerve.

have you ever watched Buffy or Angel Janice? Julie Benz actually played an important role in the worlds of those shows, as she played Darla, the vampire who sired Angel (and then begat Drusilla and Spike as a result). She was only in a few episodes of Buffy, mostly in flashback sequences, but she played a pivotal part during seasons 2 and 3 of Angel

^ No, I haven't seen either of these shows, John. I remember my husband really liked Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Angel, is that the show where Mark from Roseanne was on, and then died in real life? Glenn Quinn was his name. I've probably just made a mess out of this whole thing, lol.

Regarding Julie Benz, I think she has a delicate and elegant beauty, and she's an impressive actress, as well. I really hate to see her leave the show. I just re-read the article, and maybe she's not leaving the show. She's just starring in the latest installment of Saw. That movie is sequel city. They kick out one a year.

yep, Glenn was on Angel at the very beginning, but the writers killed his character off because his drug abuse was so bad that it was hard to work with him and he was long gone from the series when he died. Julie's character was originally killed off about five episodes in on Buffy, but then the evil lawfirm resurrected her at the start of season two of Angel as a human, and she and Angel hook up, but then she becomes re-vamped, etc. She was pretty forgettable on Buffy (but ironically enough, she was the first person shown in the pilot episode of that) but she did a great job with the role on Angel.

I've seen her in some other things as well. She had a story arc on Roswell as an FBI agent posing as a school counselor, and she was in an episode of Supernatural as a woman dying of a brain disease who kept going to revival meetings of a religious healer hoping to be cured. She's quite the vet in the action/sci-fi realm of television. But it's nice to see her finally having a stable storyline/presence on Dexter.
