I watched this show when I was a kid in the 50's.I liked it then but I love it now! I bought the Fun With Ozzie and Harriet dvd and I am really loving it! Ozzie is so laid back.
What I am observing about the show is that it is much like Seinfeld. A show about nothing.(Example, one entire episode was about a bolt that Ozzie found and spent the entire episode trying to figure out where it came from) That is it's charm and appeal at least for me! The show is so clean and innocent. Some might say corny but I say cute! I also get a kick out of the old commercials! Did you recognize Mary Tyler Moore as the Hotpoint pixie? That was her first show biz job I think.

Yeah once you get hooked... you get hooked. I loved Ricky & David always always always & Harriet's wry sense of humor. Ozzie was Ok but kind of corny...his real genius with the show was behind the scenes as producer and contract negotiator....Wally's girlfriend Ginger is always a hoot...and if you look closely one of the gals Ricky goes out with is Cheryl Holridge - a former Mouseketeer! |

Yea, I first discovered O&H in 1980/1981 when my Fox station went on the air (as an independent). Don't know how many episodes were in the syndication package then, but I know it wasn't the full count. Then later on, saw some on Disney Channel and of course, the DVDs made me love them all the more. I've really become a fan of David moreso now. June and his episodes just had that nice, quiet sensual quality. I would love to get the Mill Creek 100 episode set, but I have too many things on the old wish list

David was my favorite Nelson too. But I liked them all. I really love the eps with David & June. A really good one with them is Trip Trap where she tricks David into taking her on a trip to Hawaii. |

I'll have to check out prices at different sites, but mainly at Amazon (since I do a lot of stuff online that gets rewarded with Amazon gc's). Right now I have the Platinum collection, plus a single disc Christmas and the official Nelson Family Presents collection. I love the episode where June is really determined to get a certain lamp for their new apt. |

Do you think David got the raw end of the deal when all the teen idol attention went to Ricky?

not really. He was more introverted so I don't think he would have liked the attention. Also he was handsome in his own right so I'm sure he had plenty of admirers.

My g/f is a big Ricky Nelson fan and I do like him and his music, but since rediscovering O&H, I just admire David's style and his sarcasm too. And yes, he was handsome.

Yeah, he's a great guy and in real life really held the clan together after Ozzie's passing. And what a trip it was to see him in John Water's Cry Baby . Love the fact that Dave & Sam narrate in The Best Of 24 DVD set. The Circus ep is to die for.

Do you have High School USA on DVD, Rich? It's a cheesy '80s TV movie but worth having for the nostalgia value of all those stars from '50s sitcoms (and now '80s sitcoms LOL).

Interesting thread. I feel like I was eavesdropping, lol. I remember this show a bit when I was a kid. I would really like to see it now. Does it air anymore? I'm not into buying DVDs. It's not about money. I don't like collecting anything. I read a book, then give it away. I just moved, and I'm trying to thin my house out now. I'm paying now for my sins of going to all those Tupperware, crystal, candle, and other parties, lol.
The show sounds like my kind of show. Nice and laid back. I've been getting into Leave It To Beaver, and I could watch Ward and June all day. I love their scenes. I imagine Ozzie and Harriet's scenes were great because they were really married. Regarding the question of whether Ricky got more attention as a teen idol, I would have to say yes. I think if a person is an avid fan of the show, they may see it differently; however, as someone who isn't familiar with the show, Ricky was the man! Really, he was a huge teen idol. David was handsome, I agree, yet Ricky was off the charts. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it appears from where I sit, that Ricky was groomed for the teen idol role. Great description of the lamp episode, TV DVD Fan. I take it David was married on the show. That was Reality TV folks. Strange coincidence with the names Ozzie and Ozzy (Osbourne). Two families on tv, and how many people are named Ozzie, regardless of how it's spelled. |
