Default Lisa Bonet Saved the Show From Becoming the Brady Bunch

I liked the show, but in my opinion, everybody was a goody two shoes. It was the Denise character that was the most real and really saved the show from becoming the black version of the Brady Bunch.

Originally, I think they wanted Theo to be the kid who was a handful, but eventually they softened him up too. Lisa Bonet's character is the one who emerged as the "Wild Child," and I really appreciated that.

I don't know much about "The Brady Bunch", because I've never seen it. If they ever showed that show over here in Sweden, it was before my time. But I still think I understand what you mean about sitcom characters being too "goody-two-shoes".

Well, as much as I think Cliff and Claire were most disappointed by Denise, they could get mad at other kids too, like when Sondra and Elvin decided not to continue their education, or when Theo suddenly shared an apartment with his girlfriend, or when Vanessa ran off to Baltimore to see a concert there.

The Denise character got on my nerves a lot. Her singing, "I got my license, yeah yeah yeah..." not to mention other things she said and did, but overall, it would have been awful to see a goody goody family.

Denise balanced out the kids. There is almost always one kid in the family who gives their parents grief in one degree or another. Denise was that child. It seems Lisa and Denise were similar.

Denise wasn't the only one that was becoming a wild child...LOL.

Vanessa turned into one in the ep. where she got drunk and the ep. where she came home late when she hangin' out w/ a boy named Jeremy.

Also, Denise was responsible for adopting the kid that many say was the shark jumper in Olivia and that was also a similar move The Brady Bunch did when they brought in cousin Oliver.

Denise was also responsible for bringing in another annoying character in Martin Kendall.

Martin wasn't annoying. He was just boring and didn't add anything to the show. His daughter Olivia though... What was the point of adding that character? Rudy was still only ten years old! Say what you want about Pam, but she at least was needed to fill a void, since both actress Tempesst Bledsoe and her character Vanessa went to college and hardly was on the show anymore.

I liked Martin too. If they had to marry off Denise, at least Martin was cool. Olivia...don't get me started on that brat.

And remember, that actor wasn't introduced to us for the first time when Denise was married. That actor first came along as Sondra's boyfriend.

I loved her singing that. Also, Denise was her best IMO during that season. I loved her. She was outrageous.

It's also pretty funny how Lisa Bonet gave Bill Cosby grief off-camera, too.

B/C I heard Bill Cosby answer a question as to which child co-star gave you the most grief and eh definitely said Lisa Bonet.

and this was from TCS - E True Hollywood Story!

Yeah, he doesn't seem to have been happy with her getting married or doing nude pictures.
