I have been going through the 40 acre backlot website.
The studio backlot that does not exist anymore was where mayberry was filmed! It has a lot of pics of the different buildings and I thought I would watch some episodes of TAGS to try and see the buildings on film. Well I have watched several episodes but they never go outside! When did they start filming outside? What Episodes? Anyone who has not been to the 40 acre backlot website it is great! Here is the Link. http://www.retroweb.com/40acres.html Enjoy! Charles |

Cool website! Lots of amazing photos.
I never realized they filmed Hogan's Heroes right in the middle of L.A.

Amazing what they can do when filming scenes make you think they are thousands of miles away! Make fake snow look real too! It's a shame they tore down the 40 acre backlot someone could have made big bucks with tours! Glad you like the website be sure and click on the "Tour" link on the website if you haven't already. no, I don't think they were; they just filmed that one there. But not the entire episode; just the scenes at the begining where Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Janice Rand beam down, and are walking around. (for all you other trekies, it's the episode "MERI")

40 acres was a part of the Desilu-Culver Studios. The Culver Studios still exist on Washington Blvd. in Culver City but the 40 acre backlot was sold of in the early 1970s and it was eventually razed. I live in Los Angeles and for a time, lived not too far from the area where the old 40 acre backlot once stood. It is now just a huge industrial park with warehouses, some independent production companies but mostly private commercial businesses.

It is a shame that they tore that down. It seems to me that they could have preserved it. |

The Star trek episode "City on the edge of Forever" was filmed in the mayberry set of the 40 acre backlot. If you don't believe it watch it as Kirk and edith Keeler are walking and she mentions McCoy they walk right past Floyds Barbershop. Also the alley scene where they got there change of clothes was the very same alley used in the old Superman series where he always went to change into superman. The same area was Metropolis in that series. Charles |

yea, I forgot about that one. And I never knew that the outdoor Metropolis scenes in "THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN" were also filmed there. I know that the Daily Planet building in that show was really the Los Angeles city hall.

I never knew Star Trek, and Batman were also filmed at the backlot along with the other shows. Too bad the backlot got torn down it would have made for a great in person tour
