I guess I'm thinking of groups that should should have had more fame & fortune because of their talent, but through bad luck/misfortunes never did. We probably can all name a group/someone who comes to mind.
For me its the Cowsills, who had two great #2 hits "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" and "Hair". They were also being seriously considered to do the Partridge Family series which was based on them. They have always had bad financial situations. Part because their dad goofed with bad financial decisions, and part because the deal with the TV show fell through. This has always left a sour taste in my mouth abt the PF series. Since the early 70s they've had rough times. And it makes me really sad because, IMHO they were SO TALENTED and deserving of more. |

Not a group but an artist who should have been waaaay bigger is Cheryl Lynn. She had a couple of hits, one with the group Toto. But the one she is most famous for is GOT TO BE REAL. I just posted a few weeks back on that CHIC thread how Nile Rogers stated Cheryl Lynn should have been bigger than she ever was and could be recording to this day and why she isn't, he hasn't a clue. That woman could SIIIIIING! I have her songs on my real one player, including STAR LOVE and SHAKE IT UP TONITE.

Irene Cara is a prime example here. She really seemed to carry the dance-pop torch brightly in the early 80's when Donna Summer moved away from disco to rock/pop and before Madonna had truly taken off. But then in 1984-1985, she got into a really nasty lawsuit with her label that kept her out of the studio for years, and by the time things were settled, her time had way passed. Even tho with "Fame" and "Flashdance... What A Feelin'", you'd think she would have a higher status among the dance divas. Maybe not Donna or Madonna's level, but better than she gets.

Irene also won an Oscar for writing that song. It was after that it seemed to magically just disappear.
