Why did this L eps. end so chessy? I heard also that there was in earlier verson of this eps., does it still exist? If it does still exist, what was the ending of that verson like?

The original version (4/17/54), which is the version you're talking about, was cut short by CBS because it ran overtime. The live studio audience got to see the "real" ending, while fans at home were left as confused as you are until the following week, when Jackie attempted to explain what had happened (this was during the same Gleason Show that "Move Uptown" was originally a part of). Coincidentally, Jackie took so long explaining how the previous week's show had run overtime, that CBS was forced to cut this episode short as well. "Stand In For Murder" was remade on 6/4/55 and ended on time, but still hasn't been released. While this version still isn't available to the public, it was confirmed to have been one of the first Lost Episodes shown at a R.A.L.P.H. convention back in the 80's...so it IS in existence somewhere.
