Question A New Member would like everyone's help...

Hello Everyone... Someone sent me a private message asking me if I knew anything about his cousin that was murdered. He had heard that Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment on it. I've never seen it or heard of it. If I did then I don't remember.

Here's the message he sent me.

my cousin Brian Schrock was killed in a gangman style shooting in montrose illinios in 1977. he was a gas station attendent. he was training a guy for the job that night. the other guy was also killed. they were tied up in the back room. the gunman was never found. someone once told me that they had seen this story on unsolved mysteries. Brians dad submitted the story to unsolved mysteries but he was never sure if it aired. if you can give me ANY info i would appreciate it.

Can anyone help him out?

Sorry, it doesn't sound familiar to me. Maybe someone else will remember it.

As far as someone telling him they saw the case on UM, they may be mistaken. I do have a segment where a Brian Folgooth was killed while working at a convenience store while cameras were on. I believe he was in the back room as well but no other employees were there and it happened much later than '77.

I would think that the family would know if a segment was produced. From what I've read here, most families are at least somewhat involved when a segment is done concerning their loved ones. Just sending a case in for consideration probably wouldn't mean that it ever was included in the show.

The case sounds very familiar but I think it was profiled on a different TV show.

One of the cable channels, A&E or TLC maybe, featured the story of a young man in his teens who was killed at a gas station in the 1970's. The father prophetically pleaded with his son not to take the job because of the danger involved but it didnt work. The boy inisisted he would be alright and told his dad he was looking forward to making some money. For many years the killer went unidentified.

Then, a man came forward confessing he was with the murderer the night of the crime. They had been at a party when the killer asked this man to go with him for a ride. This man agreed and they drove to a gas station. Miraculously, 20 years or more later, the gun used was located and a conviction followed.

I apologize for not remembering more details. I saw the show several years ago and my memory is not that terrific. Maybe someone else on the board can add to this story.

Good luck

Chris

This story sounds very familiar to me too. It struck me that the young man just started working at the gas station and was still in training, but I'm not sure it's the same one. I believe it was on Cold Case Files(?).

I know this couldn't be it, but this sounds like the Gary Gilmore case.

The case that was shown on UM was a 1994 murder. In that segment, they showed actual footage of the events leading up to the murder (though not the murder itself). In the footage, the killer appeared to have some kind of physical feature on his back. Whether it was some kind of hump or that it simply looked that way as a result of the partial concealment of his ponytail, we can't say for sure.

Obviously, the segment I just described was the murder of Brian Folgooth. If I remember correctly, the crime occurred in Ohio
