MTV is joining the search to find America’s next great singing sensation in a new reality competition. But instead of auditioning tens of thousands of people across the country, they’re hedging their bets by selecting contestants with a genetic predisposition for stardom.
Rock the Cradle, which premieres April 3 (10 p.m. EST), will feature the children of rock royals like Bobby Brown, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, M.C. Hammer and Olivia Newton John. The show will air live weekly and will have the contestants battle it out in singing competitions to be judged by a mix of celebs and influential people in the music industry. Here’s a full list of the contestants vying for the top spot on Rock the Cradle: • Jesse Money, daughter of Eddie Money • Jesse Blaze Snider, son of Dee Snider • Lara Johnston, daughter of Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers • A’keiba Burrell-Hammer, M.C. Hammer’s daughter • Landon Brown, son of Bobby Brown • Lil Al B Sure, R&B singer Al B Sure’s son • Crosby Loggins, Kenny Loggin’s son • Chloe Rose Lattanzi, Olivia Newton John’s daughter • Lucy Walsh , daughter of the Eagles‘ Joe Walsh |

MTV's 'Rock the Cradle' is a horrible idea
Feb 11, 2008, 02:14 PM | by Michael Slezak Categories: Celebrity babies, Hell to the no!, Music, Reality TV Half the fun of American Idol is in seeing a pharmacy clerk like Elliott Yamin or an auto-service rep like Chris Daughtry break out of a life of working-class anonymity and get a chance at record deal. Which is exactly why MTV's idea for Rock the Cradle, in which children of celebrities will compete for music stardom, is so utterly unappealing. Come on, MTV! No one wants to watch a show in which rich, privileged young people get help from a large corporate conglomerate in making all their dreams come true. (Unless one of those young people is Blanket Jackson.) So step away from Rumer Willis, James Garfunkel, and Bobbi Kristina Brown. We'd rather you miss out on the next Jakob Dylan or Wilson Phillips than risk creating another Nicole Richie or Kim Kardashian 2.0. You may, however, return a certain Billy Idol video to your rotation. Rock the cradle of love…yes the cradle of love... don't rock easily, it's true... |

I'm actually working with MTV to promote the show and I think one differentiation between this show and others like it is at some level or another; most of the contestants actually have some level of performance experience and general talent. It's always going to be difficult for children of famous musicians to get out from under their parent's shadow, but I think the show is a starting point for them to establish themselves independently as artists. Do you guys think anyone stands out and has a shot at making it?
