Default Rhoda on Rhoda or Rhoda on TMTMS?

The Julie Kavner thread reminded me of a question I wanted to present to you all. Do any of you have a preference of the Rhoda character on either her show, or on MTM? Or is it just about equal? :-)

I have some old VHS releases but haven't got to watch (anyway I want to go through the MTM DVDs and then Rhoda...as the DVD sets ended on Valerie's last season). But it seems the opinion on Rhoda is a little polarized. Some think it's a great spinoff and Valerie/Rhoda is as delightful as ever. While others missed the way Rhoda was on MTM and mourned her character's evolution away from that. So I wondered what your opinions were.

I liked her on both shows but I prefer her on the MTM show just a little better. Her & Mary seemed like such great friends and then her run-ins with Phyllis were so good too.

I haven't seen nearly enough of the Rhoda show to give an honest opinion, but I really missed her without Mary. I know there were occasional crossovers, but that regular dynamic was sorely missed.

I missed the Mary-Rhoda relationship. I think Mary by herself and Rhoda by herself without each other were too strong of one type of character. Mary was innocent, shy, sweet, and Rhoda was outgoing, fun-loving, and wild. They balanced each other perfectly. That's why I like when they are together, whether it be the first 4 seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, or any of the episodes of either show where they are together.
