Classic 1980s film The Breakfast Club is the latest movie to be given a modern day makeover. The 1985 original revolved around a group of high school archetypes bonding in a detention room one morning. It made huge stars of its young cast Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall - with the media dubbing them the Brat Pack. It was written and directed by John Hughes. The new version of film will be called by Bumped, and will revolve around five twentysomething archetypes - a corporate type, a musician, a womaniser etc - who, wait for it, bond after they get stranded in an airport. The new version will mark the directing debut of Anna Mastro, who is the protege of Charlie's Angels helmer McG. It will be written by Blue Crush's Lizzy Weiss. However, there is still a chance the film could stay in detention as it is expected to start shooting the same time as the feared actors strike. The Screen Actors Guild's (SAG) contract with Hollywood bosses ends this summer, and it's feared it could lead to more action. News, no doubt, that will please fans of the original. http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/06032008/...st-club-0.html |

Why!?!?!??!!? Another classic destroyed by -fresh-out-of-ideas- Hollywood.
I wish they'd TRY being creative and stop remaking EVERYTHING! |

psh, no one's original anymore. About 90% of the horror films out in the last few years have been remakes. Anyway, at least it's not an exact remake. I'd have to destroy someone if they did that.

how about doing a sequel where they end up meeting again as 40 year olds and find themselves stranded overnight? Would be fun to see that

Unless it is the same characters, I don't see how it is a remake. To me a remake is like THE MOD SQUAD, STARSKY & HUTCH, BRADY BUNCH, etc. This just sounds like someone couldn't think of an original script and took the "idea" of a group of different people who would NOT normally hang out together and find themselves in a situation where they are together and probably will argue, fight, cry, yell and laugh.

I still wish they would have done a sequel immediately folllowing the film. I know it wouldn't have been as good, but it would have been interesting to find out what happened to Claire, Andy, Allison, Bryan and John when they returned to school on Monday. After all, some friendships and relationships were formed during that fateful Saturday. I remember reading after the Breakfast Club came out that there was talk of a sequel.
A while back, one of the high schools in the Seattle area had students doing a play of "The Breakfast Club". I thought that was really interesting and I think it got really good reviews. Andrea |
