TV director Herbert Kenwith died Jan. 30 in Los Angeles of complications of prostate cancer. He was 90. Working for Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear's Tandem Productions, he worked as producer and director on series including "Different Strokes," "Facts of Life," "All That Glitters," "One Day At A Time" and "Joe's World." Kenwith turned to television after a long Broadway and regional theater career, initially with CBS Television, where he helmed the daytime dramas "Valiant Lady and "Lamp Under My Feet," then the series "Suspicion," "The Investigator" and The Jonathan Winters and Polly Bergen Shows. He moved to to NBC for "The Doctors" and later joined Tandem productions for "Good Times" and "Sanford and Son." A native of New Jersey, Kenwith began his career as an actor, appearing on Broadway with Marlon Brando in "I Remember Mama." He later produced and directed "Night Must Fall," starring Dame May Whitty, and "Me and Molly" on Broadway, then spent six years producing and directing 65 plays for Princeton University's McCarter Theater, with actors including Mae West, Charlton Heston, Shelley Winters, Maureen Stapleton, Paul Muni, Gloria Swanson and Lucille Ball, who later tapped him as director of her series "Here's Lucy." He appeared as himself in the documentary "Joan Crawford: The Ultimate Movie Star," and "Intimate Portraits" segments on Mackenzie Phillips and Mae West. |

Herb Kenwith also directed a few S1 eps. of "The Partridge Family."
He'll be dearly missed by many. |
