Popular actor John Ritter feared he had fallen victim to a serious bout of food poisoning on the day he died, according to a phone message that was played at his wrongful death trial in California.
As part of his widow Amy Yasbeck's testimony on Friday, Ritter was heard warning his wife that he was feeling unwell in a message he left just before he was taken to hospital from the set of sitcom 8 Simple Rules... For Dating My Teenage Daughter. In the message, Ritter said, "Hi honey, this is John. I'm in my dressing room and not feeling very well. I think I have food poisoning. They're going to call a doctor to look at me." A tearful Yasbeck told the court Ritter called back, and warned her he'd probably have to miss an event at his daughter's school that evening - because his condition had taken a turn for the worse. She added, "He called back and said, 'Now I'm having chest pains and the nurse is coming and they're going to take me across the street.'" Actress Yasbeck - who wed Ritter in 1999, ten years after working with him on comedy movie Problem Child - also told the jury her husband worked hard at staying in shape: "It came up all the time. He always wanted to lose weight. He worked out a lot." Ritter's widow and his eldest children are suing two doctors for $67 million for misdiagnosing the torn aorta that killed the comic actor in September 2003, at the age of 54. Yasbeck is expected to resume her testimony on Monday. (This news article provided by World Entertainment News Network) |

Yeah, when John died they interviewed a few people including Henry Winkler. He talked & was with John that day. John told henry he was extermwley tired and was going to lay down in his dressing room. Henry joked, you're always tired. Hour later John tells Henry he thinks he has food poisoning because he is feeling worse. Henry calls for the nurse, and they talk to John about taking him to the hospital. John calls his wife to tell her whats going on. John in the hospital is getting worse by the hour, the docs. tell him it's not food poisoning, but they don't know what's wrong. They keep running tests. Meanwhile, John tells everyone his last good byes. Everyone tells him to stop it. Hour later John dies. This is all to Henry Winkler in a Larry King interview, and a ET interview.

That's very sad. I didn't know about the food poisoning, but I had heard that he told someone he wasn't feeling well. I met his wife Amy Yasbeck in 2004 and she is extremely nice. I wish I could have talked more with her, but I'm glad that I told her that I was very sorry to hear about John's passing. I heard that he was a really nice guy. "8 Simple Rules" was never the same after he died.

If I remember correctly, the doctors that treated John initially thought that he was having a heart attack. By the time that they realized that it was actually an aoertic dissection it was too late to save his life. An aoertic dissection is very tricky to treat because you have to treat it right away.
