Default And The Back To You Rating Was...

...The conclusion of "American Idol," 16.5/24, and the return of "Back to You," 7.5/11, kept FOX in the lead at 9 p.m.

I'll take it! I never thought it would go off the charts in numbers. It's not that kind of show. Still, it looks like it kept its audience after the long break.

I'm a little disappointed by that number, but like you said, it isn't that type of show. I wonder though, what it did in terms of millions?

They did 12.33 million and a 4.5/11 share.

I'm a bit disappointed too but I'm not surpprised as the show has been off air for such a long time after only 7 original episodes and Fox didn't advertize it at all this time around. Plus they keep changing the air dates and now they'll send them on hiatus till April. No wonder viewers have trouble tuning in or keeping up with the show.

I wouldn't compare it to Til' Death - yes, they had a better retention out of AI last year but they had been on air much longer and didn't have that long hiatus like BTY had because of the strike.

Hey Felix.

I love that 12.33 number! I think for a comedy on Fox, that's pretty good.

12.15 million in finals:

Time Program HH/Share, Total Viewers, A18-49 Rating/Share, A25-54 Rating/Share
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL 7-TUES 16.0/24, 28.59, 11.1/27, 12.3/28
9:30PM BACK TO YOU-TUES 7.4/11, 12.15, 4.4/11, 5.1/11

As a note, American Idol's 9pm half-hour was just under 30 million.

Hey guys what do you think of this:

Once-promising sitcom returns behind the Fox hit

By Diego Vasquez
Feb 27, 2008

“American Idol” saved “’Til Death” last year. Can “Back to You” also get an “Idol” reprieve?

The first-year Fox comedy returned to the air after several months away last night at 9:30 p.m. with the first of two new episodes. The second airs tonight. The episodes were filmed before the writers’ strike shut down production back in December and smartly scuttled away for a post-strike return.

They air after two 90-minute editions of “Idol,” which will undoubtedly be the two top shows of the week among total viewers and adults 18-49.

The question for “You” is how much “Idol” will pump its ratings, and whether that will be enough to earn a second season for the low-rated but promising sitcom.

“You” has averaged a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating this season, ranking No. 100 on broadcast. That’s not a great average, but with the writers’ strike disrupting viewing patterns and schedules for months, the show won’t be judged on that number.

Rather, it will be evaluated on potential, and it seems to have plenty.

With leads Kelsey Grammer (“Frasier”) and Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond”), the show has two of the most talented comedians on television. And while the show’s over-the-top jokes sometimes feel stale, there’s promise in Grammer and Heaton’s chemistry and the fairly unique conceit of the show, set at a mid-market local TV news station.

Should “You” perform well the next two nights, and continue to show improvement when it returns with a month’s worth of originals Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. starting April 16, the show will almost certainly return next year.

Last year “Death” showed similar potential during a limited “Idol” engagement, and this year it’s one of the few programs that saw its audience grow, albeit slightly, before the strike.

Interesting read, I think the show still has lots of potential. I just hope they can advertise the heck out of it in April when it returns. Even though it has been following 'AI' these last couple of days, there was hardly any advertising for it.

Both episodes did around the same - just over 12 million. I, as well, was a bit disappointed when I first saw those numbers. But, when you think about it, it's almost doulbe of what it was doing in the fall, which is not bad at all. Without much promotion from FOX, I"d say these 2 episodes did pretty well.

FOX should have definitely advertised it more. I didn't see a single ad promoting the Tuesday night episode except during the Tuesday night AI.

I agree. Promotion is key. I was pleased with the numbers, but what do I know, lol. I don't think anyone in their right mind expected BTY to retain all of AI's viewers. That's not logical at all. I can't imagine why the show wouldn't be renewed. I mean, what does FOX expect, 18 million viewers? They got a nice show on their hands, with very respectable numbers. I hate people. I have no idea where that came from.

It's a great show, with a great mix of comedy and 'kind of' serious. I really liked the dialog between Chuck and Gracie at the bar. And we would think Kelly would go ballistic seeing them there..but no!
