For those who've seen this episode, what did you think of it?

I will tape it but after reading the snyopsis, I am disappointed in Aunt Martha in letting the boys pay for their own tickets.

She seems like the type that wouldn't let the boys do that..

Wally and Beaver paid the price by spending most of their train money on food , leaving them with enough money for Bellport instead of Mayfield. Even funnier was the stories Beaver made up about Aunt Martha living in a poorhouse and Ward falling out of an airplane.

I think Aunt Martha would let the boys stay at the station and wait for the train themselves, but she would go without seeing to it that they had their tickets only if she were trying to 'get in good' with them, which could have been the case. Martha couldn't be as old fashioned as she was and not know it; and I've seen older relatives, including my own when I was a kid, do or buy things for the children that they didn't understand or really approve of, but they just wanted to be well-thought-of. So when Wally said they could buy their own tickets, that's the only reason Aunt Martha would consent, though it is rather questionable for her.

But I think it's less conceivable that Wally would let he and Beaver spend their money rather wildly without having bought their tickets. He was certainly old enough to know the tickets came before snacks and comic books, and they had to have enough money to get home. But, of course, Wally is one who will forfeit his good judgment to delay trouble for a little while, and this was all set up to laugh at Beaver and his stories, and how Ward found it out.

Other than the part about Aunt Martha and the tickets...

I don't understand that they didn't have any clothes to wash... Did Aunt Martha make them wear clothes she bought for them and they didn't wear any clothes that they brought from home?

What's with Beaver having to get a new nightshirt since he was wheezing? What?

I noticed that we never see what Ward wanted the boys to get him..

I guess Aunt Martha didn't want the boys to get Ward anything...

Yeah, Wally should have gotten the bus ticket FIRST or Aunt Martha should have made sure to get it first for the boys..

This episode just seemed like it has scenes missing or something...

Oh, I noticed Aunt Martha used that term we hear later in the show a few times..

Wally: Weren't they embarrassed?
Aunt Martha: Heavens, no
Wally: How come?
Aunt Martha: Because they were Bronsons.

I wish Wally had asked what she meant by that... But I guess that makes sense when we hear Wally ask Ward when Martha and her friend came to visit.

EDIT: Okay, I rewatched the scene with Aunt Martha and Ward...

I thought Ward wanted the boys to get him something but I mis heard it and he wanted Aunt Martha to tell the boys something.. I bet it's that line about behaving and not talking to strangers...

The part about Beaver saying Ward let them buy tickets, it's after the part about the tags on their collor.. The tags looked kinda dumb on them...

This brings to mind something else, more contemporary. I haven't flown (on a commerical jet) for over 3 years now, but when I used to make a 1-3 trips a year occasionally I did see a child wearing a tag somewhat like those Aunt Martha put on Wally and Beaver. But since you have to have a ticket any more to enter the secure area, how do you drop off or pick up a kid traveling alone at airports today?

I thought it was out of character for Aunt Martha to let the boys go it alone. She was a very inflexible person, and trying to make good with the boys would be the furthest thing on her mind. I guess they had to allow that for the rest of the missteps to happen. It wasn't lost on me, though.

I went to Dallas last month and I noticed a woman taking her daughter on the plane for a trip. She wasn't going herself, but they let her come into the terminal with the girl. So I guess there are exceptions for security when it involves parents.

Aunt Martha seemed really apprehensive about letting Wally and Beaver buy their own tickets, but it is surprising that she would just leave them at the station without making sure they got the tickets. Look what a mess it turned out to be! But then again, it made for a great storyline!

This show was hilarious!! The two of them, Beaver and Wally on the train, and then when Fred Rutherford found out... Hilarious stuff!!
