Default "A Weighty Problem" edit on video?

I'm right in the middle of transfering all my old VHS tapes to DVD and currently I'm half way through my "lost episodes" videos. (I never purchased them on DVD since I found out that MPI used the videotape masters for the DVDs.) I just finished with "A Weighty Problem" and according to all the books I have that list this episodes, they have it at just over 48 minutes. When I finished with this episode it was just under 40 minutes, maybe 38 or so. One of the books says that this is the longest "lost episode" currently available, but obviously this is not true. I just want to check to make sure nothing was edited out - as far as anyone knows - from the version released to video. A syndicated print wasn't used instead, or anything else that maybe someone has an idea about.

Just an observation ....

I don't beieve anything was cut out, I noticed my copy runs way under 48 also. Besides, it couldn't possibly run 48 munutes. If you take into consideration this was part of a one-hour telecast, you have to allow for the the opening announcements by Jack Lescoulie and the Glea Girls, the June Taylor Dancers' production number, Jackie's monologue, and 4 or 5 commercials and a network station break, it doesn't leave enough time for fit a 48 minute sketch into the show, unless most of the above were not done that night, which I highly doubt.

My thoughts exactly, Rob, but I thought I would check in here and see what others thought!

By the way, it's been fun transfering my shows from tape to DVD. I'm getting to see a lot of things I forgot about!

I've often wondered how true that statement was. I feel like some of those Trip to Europe shows from 1957 were definitely longer.

I screened them today. "A Weighty Problem" clocks in at 37:52, while "Away We Go!" (the first of the 8 Trip-To-Europe episodes from 1957) runs 44:58, without the formal opening, commercials, or Jack Lescoulie scene intro's. So again (not to be repititious) I have no idea where the 48 minute timing of "A Weighty Problem" comes from.

I knew it! Thanks for the confirmation. This is just more proof that all those old HM books aren't as accurate as they seem.
