I was reading about what the cast is doing now and while reading I read that they quit the show because Alan Alda started taking the show over and they felt as if they were just being used to protest the war.
I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this.

I doubt that is true. Alan Alda became a creative force about halfway through the series 11 season run (I know at least one MASHfan on these boards who hates when Alda "took over"
) so if any cast members where unhappy with him and the direction the show was taking, they would not have stuck around for several more seasons.

yea; I doubt that's true, too.
By the way TJL; am I the one you mentioned who doesn't like when Alda "took over"? Because I've often said how much I don't like it when it became "THE ALAN ALDA SHOW". |

I didn't like it when Alan took over either. They should have dumped him and kept Trapper

I liked Mash until about the seventh or eigth season, to me that was when he seemed to use it to voice his own opinions on the war after a while. He was probably doing that earlier, it just started to bug me later on. I do like Alan Alda as an actor, but you shouldn't take a show and make it your own to spread your thoughts on certain subjects.

I can understand that some think that MASH became the "Alan Alda Show" but you must all admit that this is in retrospect. The show was still a very popular show and "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" is still the most watched TV event in American Television history. Alan Alda was a driving force behind the show and the success. Alda was persistent in making the show "real" to the viewers. We all have likes and dislikes of the series. Personally I felt that Alda carried the series with his acting and creative abilities.

I myself enjoyed the last episode. I liked seeing Hawkeye go crazy. After that I always saw him as a good fit in an Alfred Hitchcock film.
